Post subject: What to do with Varcoe | |
|
Played 4 games this year.
Kicked 1 goal only and averaged just over 10 disposals a game.
Also just over 2 tackles a match.
Poor results.
I would move him to the half back flank and let him run straight.
Could provide run and carry plus he still has some pace. |

Half back or bust. Think he provides what Aish doesn't or cannot there. Pace, skill and disposal efficiency. Does Trav have the tank though? _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Agree: Varcoe to play in defence against PA's fast small forwards. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

Rd 1 2010, we started the season wit Fraser, O'Bree and Lockyer
By the end of the season, all three were no longer a regular in the senior team and had been replaced.
I expect we'll see the same with Varcoe as our team matures and improves. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Stats don't tell the whole story. I trust the committee and selection committee to judge the value that Trav is bringing to the team. They are far better placed to know whether he deserves a spot than we are,
Besides, if you watched any of yesterday's VFL game you would have seen that there is no-one there pressing to take over his role. _________________ Side by side. |

His ferocious pressure applied to the opposition when they have the ball often does not get recorded in stats. He forces players to get rid of the ball quicker than they would otherwise do, which leads to turnovers. |

I was there yesterday.
See the vfl thread with my numerous comments.
If you look at the 2018 and 2019 varcoe stats you will see a clear downturn on all of his key indicators.
The problem is that his impact as a forward has greatly diminished.
Or is there another spot in defence or midfield for Trav?
Or has father time caught up with him.
This is not just a short term issue.
The stats from both this year and last indicate an issue. |

Agreed. He just needs to do a bit more in games _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

I have noticed that Varcoe chases like a wild dog, sometimes there will be a chain of 3 or 4 handballs and Varcoe is putting pressure on the entire chain by continually chasing on the next disposal. I wouldn’t be too quick to boot him, but I think IQ will start to come up in discussions over the next month if he can put a block of form together in the VFL. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

I think he deserves another game, he does need to start to find some form. When he is playing well he is unique, in as much as, only Chris Mayne plays his style of manic forward pressure role. So I am loathed to see him dropped. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

Ha! Sat on the fence then claimed they agreed with you. Well played? _________________ The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after. |
