I thought Greenwood was good.
Checkers will bounce back.
Gray out is a bonus. Important to win this one and nudge ahead of the log jam.
Pies by 29 points. |

We didnt bury Essendon when we should have. The week before, against the Lions, we did. Hopefully we learn from that and dont rush and make stupid decisions when 30 points up.
Port were convincing against WCE, but havnt been super convincing in their other games.
Boak has turned it around and is in great form. Rockliff had also had an impact out there. Wines is Wines. First year players, Duursma and Rozee, have also been very good for Port.
They seem to share their goal kicking around, which tells us they have multiple avenues to goal. Westhoff kicked a bag in round one as did Rozee in round three. But if you look at the goals scorers, they are coming from everywhere.
Port are also yet to score 100 points in a game, but have an average score of 90 points across their 6 games. However, they've only conceded 100 points once so far.
Port so far:
WIN Rnd 1 @ Dees.
WIN Rnd 2 Vs Blues.
LOSS Rnd 2 @ Lions.
LOSS Rnd 4 Vs Tiger.
WIN Rnd 5 @ WCE.
WIN Rnd 6 Vs Roos.
We can, and should, win this match. With the news that Robbie Gray is out, that also helps.
Hit em with everything you have Pies. This'll also put down the "cant beat anyone in the top 4" thing. Unless of course we win and then Port lose to Adelaide next week and fall out the 8. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Only for the majority of the game: Mihocek’s first 14 minutes were marvelous _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

I never thought I would see the day when you would not only advocate but pushed for trading Sidey
I think we don't need heater back lets see how Quaynor goes first he could be that and better
If your so keen to get rid of Sidey maybe package him up with Langdon and trade them to west coast for Hutchings |

Now only Sam Gray and Rozee. |
Just went to the Port Adelaide site to find out why (surgery - broken hand - 4 weeks) and couldn't help but notice that the great Matthew Lokan, a rising star nominee for us in 2003 (sadly, he was pipped at the post for the honour that year by Sam Mitchell), is coach of their SANFL team: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/M/Matthew_Lokan.html |
Surely you jest?
Lokan was another one like McGough who burst on the scene, and virtually disappeared just as quickly.
He was coaching here in Canberra at one point earlier this decade I think. Belconnen Magpies if I recall. _________________ Social club member 7342 since 2000. |

You’re not another one of those people who thinks Sam Mitchell was better than Matty, are you? |

The Robbie Gray injury is a real surprise. He played the whole match, but they say he broke it in Q1.
Injuries are beginning to pile up across the AFL. It's a big problem for the league. |

"... Connor Rozee is now neck and neck with ... Sam Walsh for the ... Rising Star award. Rozee – last year's No.5 overall pick - is special. He's got an explosive X-factor about him with the ability to change a game off his own boot. Friday night's 16-point win against North Melbourne was a prime example. Not often you see a 19-year-old, in his sixth senior game, shake off two defenders inside the attacking 50, and then have the poise to hit a teammate up with a perfect pass to set up a certain goal. Rozee's spectacular mark was the icing on the cake. He finished with 22 disposals, four inside 50s and a goal, impressive numbers for an athletic half-forward who is only going to get better the longer the season goes." - Lee Gaskin (afl.com.au) |

Realistically speaking we are still yet to put together four quarters of solid football (not a bad thing).
We were very lucky to get away with the four points against the bombers, if that game had gone a few minutes longer we would have lost. Good sides find a way to win and that is what we did.
Anyway, on to this week, anyone who thinks this week is going to be a cake walk needs to throw away those one-eyed glasses they wear, the competition this year is far too even....and Port are a decent team (even sans Grey) If we can escape with a two or three goal win I for one will be pleased.
On to the teams, for mine -
OUT:
Thomas (too inconsistent due for a spell)
Greenwood (not terrible, but horses for courses selection)
IN (out of):
Aish (if fit, adds the touch of composure needed in back half)
Elliott (if fit, no question, missed his talent on ANZAC day.)
Wells (could be a surprise but not a bad game to bring him back, small ground his skill and kicking could be a very nice weapon off the half back line)
Quaynor (young fella and again smaller ground might not be a bad time to get your first game).

The fact that you are suggesting Quaynor and Wells possibly play next week makes me wonder how much knowledge you have of their progress?
Thomas is inconsistent but is a defensive forward so it is no surprise. He plays a similar role to Varcoe who also does the defensive things first.
I think Reid for Mihocek is a possibility. Brodie seems to be playing with a little niggle which is hampering him and a weeks off may help with that. Reid could fill that role well and give him some valuable time in the seniors _________________ "You must be a parking ticket, cuz you got fine written all over you" Glen Quagmire |

Only changes I'd even consider this week would be the following:
Out: Levi and Brown
In: Aish and Elliott
Wells, IQ, Reid - maybe later in the season for various reasons. Right now we can't risk Wells at Marvel or IQ in his first game against the Power. Ben Reid still moves like the titanic.
Prior to Anzac Day we played 3 games in 11 days. The win was a ripper as most of the boys looked stuffed.
Freshen up now and we should be tough to beat in our next three games. |
