.......Clearances will obviously need to be better than last week. The Power are easily league best in this area. Whereas we were number 1 last year but have fallen to 11th this season ...... |
Last year we ranked 13th for centre clearances. We don't seem to improved in this area of the game at all this season, despite having the league's best ruckman and a star studded midfield. |

Did you think? I thought Stringer and Baguley slaughtered him, one on one (which I wasn't expecting to see). |
Of the 10-9 Essendon kicked last week our defence was credited with giving up 7-5 (other goals points were allocated to players not listed as defenders)
Of the 7-5
Moore 2-2
Roughhead 1-0
Maynard 0-1
Crisp 1-0
Howe 1-1
Langdon 2-1
So Moore on the stats conceded the most followed by Langdon Howe Criso Roughhead
Given that Daniher kicked one of those from around 65 Moore did quite well IMO
Maynard was on that stat our best defender last week
Make of it what you will I thought our defence as a whole went well last week
I thought there chances were generated by a lack of midfield pressure and from lost contests |

Remember, there are centre clearances and there are around the ground clearances. Historically Grundy has always been better at around the ground ball ups as opposed to clearances from the square.
There are usually more around the ground ball ups and throw ins than centre square bounces, so the numbers really need to be separated for accuracy.
And as I have posted before, winning clearances is nice but it’s the consequence or outcome of the clearance that is more important. |
