We can look forward to the Essendon supporters booing loudly at him again when the Brownlow votes are read out for round 6. Because that will make them look measured and sensible.

Smile Great comments P4S. Wow, what an amazing record Pendles has for this game. A champion indeed!!!

Doper supporters were booing pendles and pendles only. FACT. They were not booing the umpires cos they had already left the field by the time pendles was announced as being the winner and started talking. They made a conscious effort to trash his moment and drown his acceptance speech out with boos because they are low life parasites with no respect for the player or the occasion. Boo all you like during play but not while a player is accepting an award. Still, we shouldn't be too shocked; we're talking about the same people who still deny their club are drug cheats. They would follow hird the turd off the cliff.

Agree with all of this WarrenerraW.

One interesting part of your comment was these are the "same people who still deny their club are drug cheats". .
I was totally bewildered as to why the Essendon mob would go so totally off their heads at losing a close game through what they interpreted were poor umpiring decisions. What??? Lose a GF in similar fashion and then you've got something to be really upset about!!!

Then I realized it's because they still have a huge chip of their shoulders about the supplement issue. They could only have this if they were still in denial about Hird and the whole regime at the time. Their cheating club was punished and they still think it was unfair!!!! Weird.

(Not singling you out WW, but just referencing your post because yours is a view that seems to be held by many others)

To me its pretty clear that Essendon supporters were booing the decision to award the medal to a Collingwood player instead of, say, Daniher. They would have booed any Collingwood player who was awarded the medal and stepped up to the mic. Pendlebury was not the focus (and I think he knows that).

Buckley got it wrong when he said "Shame on anybody that booed a champion". Because they were not booing a champ - they were booing the decision-makers, the people in authority, who denied Essendon the medal.

And in booing the 'powers-that-be' they were expressing a beautifully pure act of larrikinism - an attribute that was once seen as the heart and soul of the Anzac spirit, particularly those that fought at Galipolli.

But larrikinism (actions that show the disrespect for authority) has been emasculated from Anzac Day ever since it became highly commercialised (and yes, Nathan, you have had your snout in the trough too) and used as a marketing tool for the War-on-Terror recruiters in the Dept of Defence.

^^Nah, doesn't wash at all. Daniher wasn't really even close to winning the medal, Shiel was closer but Pendlebury was always the clear choice. It's very unusual for a play on the losing team to win the medal, so I don't buy that this is what they expected.

The only other time I know of a player being booed loudly during a medal ceremony was in the situation you speculate on: when Judd won it in the 2006 derby in a losing side.

Just as well Glendinning isn’t awarding the ANZAC day medal then.

Any Essendon supporters who feel aggrieved about Anzac Day need to watch this for some perspective. This is what having a game stolen by the umps looks like:

Shocked

I don't even understand the relevance of referring to a game in which the umpires were bad. Collingwood was on the receiving end of the bad umpiring on Anzac Day - and Essendon got multiple goals directly from those decisions.

Finally got around to watching the replay.

The booing was very poor at the end, mainly when Pendles was announced the winner and talking.

Of the frees that have been highlighted, three of them were at the beginning of the final quarter. And all three led to Essendon getting the ball anyway and have zero impact on the score. When looking at the footage where all the players stopped, the right call was made and Essendon got the ball out anyway.

Plenty of high tackles were missed, the Tippinwutti one has been highlighted but there was one to Grundy and one to Pendlebury missed.

Pendles free was not an act as has been pointed out. His head was over the ball, and Im fairly sure you're told not to bump from the front in the under 8's. Anyone that thinks that isnt a free kick is kidding themselves.

Pendels was also easily the best player of the day. He could have won the medal even if Essendon had won. Shiel had a lot of the ball, but gee wizz, he missed a lot of targets. Saad in my opinion was Essendons best player, Daniher may have won the medal based on the goals he kicked.

The final minutes of the game were the stuff heart attacks are made from. Essendon couldn't get the ball forward and they had a few chances. The free kick to Brown in the final minute was 100% in the back, however Stephenson was probably caught holding the ball which the umpire missed. He did kick the ball once he'd hit the ground, but I think could have been paid holding. Did he have prior opportunity? It's close.

Anyway, boo the umpires, I get it. But it was out of hand and embarrassing for Essendon supporters once the medal was being accepted.

Media report Essendon fans booed their team off the ground last night.

Did Worsfold have anything to say?

I wonder if they'll boo Pendles in Rnd 23?

That would be a disgrace if they do.

^ Are you serious? They've been waiting 4 months to boo Pendles again. The Essendums love to boo. If they don't boo us, they boo the umpires, and if not the umpires they'll goo their own team.
The difference is it's our home game this time. Let's come out in numbers and smash them. With a bit of luck they would have gone home by the 3rd quarter like they did against the Doggies.

I was very, very distressed to see that all those poor Essendon supporters had to put up with another painful bout of Pendleburyitis last night.
