Redemption from what? Their mauling by GWS? They had a big win the previous week, so they weren't on the rebound. |
Come on K, you’re better than that ; )
Redemption for last years hiding we gave them on ANZAC day. Surely they would have been reminded of their last pitiful ANZAC day effort. |

They would have beaten most teams yesterday but they didn’t beat Collingwood.
They were quick, took chances and kicked straight but they still didn’t win.
A bit of perspective please. That was a solid win ! |
I I agree: our win was fantastic. They got the momentum in the third quarter, but we held them back with absolutely desperate, dour defensive pressure in the last. Our defence is absolutely magnificent. We have established a really powerful defensive capacity, centred on our brilliant defenders and also with the midfielders running back. Our defensive pressure is as good as any other team in the competition.
However, we can't really know if this was Essendon's best. Such comments sound similar to the other comment that I have seen here: this was Essendon's Premiership. this is only round 6. Who knows how Essendon will evolve from here? We should not be so arrogant. This competition is extremely even. We simply have to assess each victory on its merits at the time, and not assume that we have just beaten another team's best possible play. It was a wonderful victory, because we were able to resist the tide, and apply enough defensive pressure to withstand theirs and go forward at crucial moments. This victory highlighted the great team defence that we are establishing, and the grit to hang on under intense pressure, all essential to win a GF. I am extremely happy about this victory because it is part of the process of building a Premiership team. We will have to get much better from here though to win the Flag, and who knows? Essendon may also improve from now to then. We have to be ready for them if they do. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

You make some good points mttm, but you are wrong on one point. Make no mistake, this was the Bombers Grand Final. They will not play in the real GF this year and they know it. For the past 15 years, the ANZAC game has been their biggest game of the year, and so it will be this year. You may call this assessment arrogance, but I call it reality. |

That's an excellent video, and pretty much confirmed by Shaun Ryan. _________________ I hold a cup of wisdom, but there is nothing within. |

Thanks for that link taffWA. It's a beauty. Pictures tell more than a thousand words eh? |

Interesting video really.
The Baguley free clearly was a free for Langdon. He had a fist full of Langdon's jumper for the entire contest.
The Tipper handball/throw to Daniher that resulted in a goal looked suspect, but hard to tell.
The 2 player stop non free kicks both occurred before the Baguley free and goal, so they had no effect in the end.
In the end they had a couple of poor turnovers in the last minute, one from Tipper and another from Saad, so can't blame the umpires for those. |

Might also add that if WHE kicked the goal before 3/4 time, we would have gone in 20 points up rather than 9, after the 11 point turn around due to WHE missing that sitter.
Doubt they would have got close if they had to come back from 20 points behind.
But winning by less than a kick made it sweeter:) |

And what of Sidebottom's tremendous bump on Zaharakis as he was about to swoop on the ball in their last gasp chance in the middle of the ground with a few seconds remaining? |
Yes it was bloody great! |

The first half is probably true, but "they know it" is false. They think they can win the premiership. They've loaded up thinking that. The media talked them up last year (Hird: "if they make finals, they'll win the flag") and this year. They've seen what happened the last three years. There's no way "they know" they won't make the GF. |

It was Guelfi. The bleach is a new thing for him. It's so 80s. If you're going to bleach your hair now, why not go blue or green or something? Blonde is kind of boring. Swan tweeted about it during the game. |

None of the above played today
Depth is good when all fit and well.
Keep a real good eye on Kelly, Murphy, Tyler Brown and Daicos- very fine young talent.. |
Our VFL team is performing very poorly. That doesn't suggest good depth. |
