2017 was the only year I didn't mind ESS winning on ANZAC Day.
My dad passed away 12 days earlier & he loved the Bombers, so I was going for them for that 1 day.

It'll be tough but we should be right come Thursday, I reckon.

The first one, the draw, was probably the best game I have ever seen played live.

I think we put 2017 to rest by smashing them last year.

ANZAC Day:
- 1995 = Draw
- 1996 = Collingwood (12)
- 1997 = Collingwood (29)
- 1998 = Collingwood (20)
- 1999 = Essendon [8]
- 2000 = Essendon (40)
- 2001 = Essendon [8]
- 2002 = Collingwood (33)
- 2003 = Essendon (66)
- 2004 = Essendon (33)
- 2005 = Essendon (14)
- 2006 = Collingwood (17)
- 2007 = Collingwood (16)
- 2008 = Collingwood (73)
- 2009 = Essendon (5)
- 2010 = Collingwood (65)
- 2011 = Collingwood (30)
- 2012 = Collingwood (1)
- 2013 = Essendon (46)
- 2014 = Collingwood (23)
- 2015 = Collingwood (20)
- 2016 = Collingwood (69)
- 2017 = Essendon (18]
- 2018 = Collingwood (49)

We have dominated the matches since 2006.

Would not be surprised if they are cherry ripe to knock us off this year.

They are definitely on an upward trajectory after a slow start to the season like us.

2009 was BAD!

Zaharakis the squib put them in front with seconds to go, we were in front by a point & it began raining. I'll never forget seeing that ball sail over my head.
But going by the above pattern, fingers crossed it continues, we should win the next 2 before they get a look in!

^ Ie, from the first time Scudd Emblebury ran out against them on Anzac Day. Their supporters will still be having nightmares about him in 2069 (those of them that haven't drowned in their own bile, that is).

I was at the game in 2009 and couldn't believe it when we lost. David Zacharakis - I'd never heard of him. But we won many games in a row after that game. Later in the year Mick Malthouse said that the Anzac Day loss taught us a lot and was a blessing in disguise.

I learnt a very valuable and hard lesson that day. A group of us magpies had gone to the game with a few Essenscum “feral” friends and towards the end of the last quarter started giving them heaps! Then the horror happened and the shit stirring swapped 😱 Since then unless we are leading by heaps, I don’t go the early crow.

^ It mostly taught us that we were never going to win anything significant with Fraser in the ruck. The rest, as they say ....
