OUT : Thomas (omit)
IN : Appleby
Thomas’s output over the past 3 weeks doesn’t warrant inclusion. Mayne in his original role as a defensive forward offers greater impact and versatility.
Appleby has earned another crack. For a 1st year player, he was building each game before doing his hammy. Good player this kid, plenty more games to come.
The Pig gets another week to do a job on the dangerous Macrae who has been dominating. Mayne might also be considered if he gets off the chain. Greenwood can kick goals and I see them as complimenting each other.
While many are calling for Varcoe’s re-instatement, his ability to regularly impact a game has tapered. On the upside, I believe he can develop into playing an effective HBF role, potentially managing kicks-ins. If afforded this trial through several weeks in the VFL, he might just craft a fresh role and prolong his career. This would release Maynard.
Ben Reid? That’d be a regressive step. If he starts ripping it up for several weeks, then, only them would I consider his return. Cox still offers more upside on his output to date.
I’m concerned Treloar won’t be their heir apparent to Pendles as a centre. Let Treloar use his outside play making and use his pace on the wing / HFF driving into 50.
Maynard has progressed to where I'd like see him given the opportunity / rotated through the middle as a big bodied Centre. We haven’t alleviated our clearance deficit from last season, this is worth a crack.
Doggies like to run, but we'll do it better. Pies by plenty this week, 6 goals.
B: Appleby, Roughead, Crisp
HB: Howe, Moore, Langdon
C: Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Mayne
FOL: Grundy, Beams, Adams
HF: Stephenson, Mihocek, Treloar
F: Elliott, Cox, JDG
I/C: Greenwood, Phillips, Maynard, Aish _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

youd bloody hope so, though I have no doubt the AwFL could screw us out of it!! |
Don't underestimate "our" own ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

I suspect the only change will be Varcoe in for Greenwood. _________________ Beware the swooping Magpie. |

I really like this idea Laurie. Even a tapering Varcoe has too many footy smarts and skill to just allow him to drift off into the sunset.
I am hoping that he's just taking a bit of time to get his mojo back. It was a really tough year for him in 2018 in that he had a double loss to deal with, one in his footy life and another in his personal life. |

Selection this week is basically just a shuffling of the deck chairs.
Still on course for the West Coast iceberg. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

This is the problem we have, not so much against the Bulldogs, but the next one coming up against West Coast.
Unless we start getting some return from our second and third year players it will take a coaching miracle to beat West Coast. Varcoe for Greenwood doesn’t cut it. Today’s game starting at 4:30 is as important as the one at 7:50. Some players have to start showing something as our VFL form has been terrible. |
