Some silver lining there, at least.

The BBC has also released its estimate for the eventual GB vote share.

Conservatives: 45%

Labour: 33%

Lib Dems: 12%

Greens: 3%

Brexit party: 2%

If Boris Johnson does end up with a 45% vote share, that would be higher than Tony Blair’s in 1997 (he was on 44.3%), higher than Margaret Thatcher’s in any of her three victories (44.9%, 43.5% and 43.2%) and the highest since Edward Heath’s in 1970 (46.2%).

Labour called the ordinary Brit xenophobe, little Englander, racist. And lost. The Leftist rhetoric everywhere is to infantalise the view of others, talk down to people, claim high moral ground. Today, the ground is gone. #UKElection

Same as Australia and the USA. Let's see if the British left are able to self assess rather than blame and insult the electorate. From what I've seen so far I'm not sure progressive politics is capable of introspection.

Are the right any less fractured? Everything looks rosy when you're getting into power, and Johnson may well have a more comfortable prime ministership than either Cameron or May enjoyed, but there are still a lot of bandaids being put over the cracks.

The mass right is authoritarian. Everybody knows their place and will ultimately fall in line with the 'natural order' from billionaire to millionaire to peasant. Life is about being in place and putting people in their place, giving everyone a clear mission. And this can carry on just fine under worsening conditions without protest if the authoritarianism and putting people in their place are dialled up to match the level of unrest.

I have no party. Zip. Economic dimwits, social dimwits, world dimwits or just plain dimwits, the lot.

You can have strong leadership and direction without succumbing to primitive Darwinism, but I don't see the option on the table at the moment. Corbyn and Swinson are the complete opposite of what is needed for the times, with Sturgeon making them look as pathetic as they are, as she does Johnson (although to be fair road kill also makes Johnson look pathetic).

That was an arse wooping no doubt, but now Scotland is lining up for Mac Exit, Jimmy, leaving the UK and joining the EU as an independent country.

I have NFI how that would work for them economically but I'd be supportive of them being self governing instead of being ruled from England

The Socialist Workers Party and ANTIFA only accept election results when their side wins.

Unfortunately for them, if Boris can somehow be prevented from doing something totally to character and laying the metaphorical turd in the punchbowl at some future point, they're going to be unhappy with the results for some time.

As a notorious pants man I'm not sure Boris can avoid scandal for 5 years. Being PM would be like the proverbial kid in a candy store.

Yeah, the longer he's in the job the closer he is to a major phukup.

I can see him maintaining concentration until they get through Brexit, then his handlers are going to have fun.

Engaging interview with historian David Starkey (you’ve probably seen his TV series on Henry VIII etc) on BoJo’s election win. He telescopes the sweep of hundreds of years of British parliamentary history into the current political landscape. Fascinating, enlightening and humorous perspectives on where the UK is heading. You don’t have to agree with him to enjoy a superb and irrepressible communicator at the top of his game. Good stuff.

Starkey is a very impressive man. Been listening to him for years.

Always very lucid and precise in his analysis.

It's also worth listening to Brendan O'Neill on the revolt of the working class against Labour.
