He is equal 5th for hitouts, though (on 0 with 23 others).
One could, I suppose, just dismiss that as mediocre (or worse) - but, hopefully, as you say, he will get enough goals and clearances in the remainder of the season to justify picking him or, if he can't, we bring in someone who can. |
The only one you have missed is footy smarts 😳 |

^^^ Gawn has only 22 score launches, if it matters. I was, of course, simply pointing out that Grundy was an outlier for us (as he is in most things) but that the rest of the list was "Crisp and Howe on 17, Treloar on 15, Pendles on 12, Phillips, Langdon and Mayne on 11, then Beams in 11th spot, on 10".
Beams might have all sorts of "bests", eg tattoos per goal - but only if one adjusts with a form of special pleading. On "score involvements", JDG is our most effective (67 from 8, followed by Treloar with 67 from 9 and Pendlebury with 64 from 9). Beams is 10th in the list, with 50 from 7. Of course, score involvements is a stupid surrogate measure, anyway - our centre-square midfielders (Pendles, Treloar and Beams) average in the 7s per game, which is consistent with what you expect - the guys who get the most opportunity at the ball in attacking positions are the guys you would expect to be involved in the most scoring attacks. You'd also expect the capable forwards to be ranked high for your team - and, lo and behold, JDG and Stevo are up there. Jeremy Cameron is the top in the AFL - but even as an unusually high-disposal forward, JC only goes at 8+, which is the range where JDG is.
So, if you look at our "top 10" for score involvements, its JDG, Treloar, Pendles, Stevo, Phillips, Cek, Grundy, Thomas, Sidey and Beams and, really, there isn't that much separating the first from the tenth. Why? - because it's a nonsense stat. |

Of the leaders,
Kelly: Probable 10 votes.
Cripps: Unlikely to add to his total
Bontimpelli: Could get minors.
Boak: Won't add.
Grundy: Likely 10. Six at worst.
Pendles: Same.
Neale and Fyfe: Still playing.
Whitfield: 29 disposals and 2 goals will see him draw votes.
Cunnington: Similar to Whitfield. 29 disp. 5 tackles and a goal.
Ablett: Won't add. _________________ Donny.

So far this year, 15 Collingwood players have received votes from at least one coach in at least one game. Beams is not one of them. |

After 10 rounds of 2018, Grundy had 32 votes and Pendles had 21. Both are so far having much more dominant seasons for us this year than last. |

As it's a midfielders award, will Grundy's votes end up robbing Pendlebury of a Brownlow? |

Coniglio had a monster game. 36 disposals @ 83.3% D/E, 3 goals and 8 tackles. 192 AF points.
Carlton's Cripps bombed out, with just 11 disposals.
Kelly didn't dominate but was still in the Cats' best. Minor votes.
Neale will draw votes again but not top.
Boak probable 10. 33 disp. 6 tackles and 2 goals.
Pendles, Roughy and Howe for us, but losing will cost them a vote or 3. _________________ Donny.
