There in lies the beauty of this season (allowing no back step in fitness)

Apart from a few every spot you need to perform if in VFL to dislodge a player

And the wages of poor AFL form means the VFL

Moore is touted back man but a situ with Ben in the side for team balance during a game a switch-a-roo. Ben down back and Darc fwd

This by no means is the only versatile option this yr

Would it surprise you to know that Reid's accuracy is better than T. Cloke and L. Franklin, and roughly equal to G. Ablett Sr? Not bad for someone who was predominantly a back

And that makes me feel like a dill —early Friday I said he was past his best

But as the game went he started to hit a rich vein of form—not the Ben of past

But like a few had been out of it for a season

So I am in the he will be OK camp

That would not suprise me

So with those comparisons would he line up as CHF in prerence to Checkers

Moore is a definite marking back —he and Howe should pluck most that come their way

I really like Checkers but Reid can roost it further

When your sitting at the top of the MCG, and Collingwood has the ball pressed our half, behind the ball in space is when you can see how intelligent Ben Reid is. He will not be caught out of position and is always filling the right hole. One on One yes he can be beaten though.

IMO, a triangle of Dunn-Reid-Howe is a very strong experienced defense. I'd like to see that come together with a bit of luck.

TM my point is with injury luck out way we have combo’s far in excess of last season

In every line ,ruck and mid so given we have same commitment as last year the only improvement on last yr is silverware

But let’s just count the chicken’s as they hatch —not before

From my perspective we are a big threat

Agree, but history shows us that to win a flag you need a stable defense. I hope bucks finds that right combination early and with luck, hopefully we can stick with it.

A player like Moore/Reid/Scharenberg (same type of player) need a strong FB to complement their skillset. In terms of strength, Dunn is the one we are really missing. With Dunn playing on the opposition Monster, it allows either one of our CHB's to thrive.

With all of our CHB being well skilled and good at intercepting and reading play, I think the most important question becomes who is going to be our Full-Back.

IMO the pecking order at FB may be : Dunn-Roughead-Goldsack

I dont fancy seeing combinations at FB/CHB of : Moore/Langdon , Goldsack/Howe etc.

I dont understand why Buckley has put Moore in the defense only basket, and put Reid in the forward only basket.

Reid when fit, is and always has been a Solid Defender. Moore is yet to show that. Moore i think has more chance of having a breakout year in the forward line playing with Mason.

I think even Mihocek would make a strong Full-back but i understand he is a good goal source. I just think that if Dunn does not come good, or Roughead, then Mihocek should not be overlooked. Mihocek has the potential to be better than Nathan Brown was and could be more valuable to the team if the opportunity comes about at Full-Back.

Reidy is one of my favourite players but he was done as a consistent senior player 5 years ago. He played his 95th game in 2013 and has managed 47 in 5 seasons since.

Some people, despite immense talent, are just not physically up to a 10-year AFL career. He's backing up for his 13th season this year. It would be wonderful to see him play a full season, without interruptions and recapture his peak but at an average of under 12 games per season so far over his career - and never having gone through uninjured, you wouldn't bet on it.

He's past 100 games, if he breaks down again put him out to stud. Preferably with some female netballers or basket ballers

Today’s training will be one to assetaine the injury listed Moore ,Elliott & Reid

Having they played a competitive game and how they have got thru it regards to their injuries

Need to come thru in good shape and we know they can play AFL hurly burly

The alternative is like last year——absence

I think Ben Reids best days are behind him IMO. Back up to our best 22. Reidy's been a great player but injuries have cruelled his ability to stay on the park, to play games consistently and ultimately have cruelled his career.

I love his contribution to the club and the fact of him being a premiership player but I'd be surprised if he makes it this year. Happy to have egg on my face.

This. I share the same sentiments as you.

It's clearly evident that Reid has struggled with injuries for the past five years, including last year but I think Mihocek's good form forced Reid out of the team especially in the second half of the year.

In order for Reid to get himself back into the best 22, he will need to force one of either Moore or Mihocek out of the team, which I think he will struggle to do.

But that's not history's fault.

It's also not entirely correct.
