look im for 1 not panicing regarding whe and jdg but I do question whe's timing of this operation look he had all of October November dec and jan to get it done now its nearly march and he goes under the knife I don't get it and now he going to miss 2 games at most as It looks.
Look Collingwood and its players need to use the off season more better and use it early on as a chance to get these operations done.
The sooner the real stuff begins the better but you cant have operations in feb.
I think collingwood need an injury specialist full time too |

It's a valid point, but... maybe they went along the lines of rehab without surgery. Most of these injuries do respond to treatment without the need to operate.
Orazio Fantasia had a similar problem last year and was back playing one month after the operation, it's not that big a deal.... probably one step up from an ingrown toenail.
He'll be back in no time. I think we are actually in very good shape for round 1. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

The Collingwood web site acknowledges the good showing of Crisp / Grundy match simulation—-Beams also got a good report
WHE —Howe—JDG are on the cusp of improving to match ready
In a month to we are up and going for R1 —-a rolling effect of players will be close to R 1 to R 3 _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

February every year is the NADIR of supporters existence. I vouch for cotton wool vs match simulation _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Surgery should always be the last option. Obviously the medicos were hoping that WHE's injury would heal naturally. But medicine is often an inexact science, and every injury and every individual is somewhat unique, making it impossible to predict recovery times etc. However, with the season fast approaching, it seems the medicos have agreed that a small operation is the best solution for Will. Here's hoping he recovers quickly.
Overall, I can't recall our squad being in such a healthy and injury free state. The professionalism of our club puts us in a great position to begin the 2019 season. Now all we need is lady luck to shine her light on us....something she has refused to do for the past 5 years or so. |

Totally agree RB.
In most instances, they are trying to avoid the scar tissue from surgery which can be problematic in its own right.
The other point we are failing to realise here, is that we always bemoan when a surgery is done later than sooner.
What about the number of times a player takes the conservative R and R route and it does work. The only difference is that we choose not to interpret them as “ success “ stories when they go the rest before surgery route. ( I think Aish was one good example of that last year ) |

Well, the timing of the discovery of Howe's problem was just dumb luck. If he'd got the (second, preseason) knock in finals, he'd have been out for the remaining finals. (So he himself says.) |

The way I see it certain players were playing injured in the GF. West Coast were in exactly the same situation as us. You’d play on one leg if you had to. So players like Howe, Treloar, Pendlebury, WHE, De Goey and Crisp were subjecting their bodies to extreme stress in the GF and at some point the body rebels and the body needs to recuperate. That’s what the preseason is for. Not seeing players out there is no big deal. When you see players like Moore, Elliot and Wells looking so fit and healthy on the training track it’s because they didn’t play in the last part of the season. It only matters who’s available in round 1 and at the moment it looks like we will have a full list to choose from. |

Injuries create opportunities.
From all reports, Daicos is one of the most improved on the track this year.
I don’t think anyone has Daicos in their best 22 but an injury or two may yet give him the chance to show us all just how much he has improved his footy.
If Daicos gets his chance, then it’s on him to do enough to retain his spot until the ones coming back from injury, show more.
Daicos is only one example, players like Quaynor and Murphy fall into a similar category, depending on the outs.
There is nothing to get concerned about over a few short term injuries early in the season while you continue to have good depth on your list. How else will find out about the kids and how they respond to the step up in opposition. |

And my thoughts entirely—nobody wants their best players out for an extended period but as like last year one soldier down and another steps up
Example was Sier getting his break into the side
And I’ll add the step up from Adams when Treloar went down
Not the way I would like to see Atu or Isaac in the heat of AFL early
But hey!! Didn’t take Stevo long from no game to playing a big part in the season
It’s a new year but the ability to rise to the challenge has no use by date _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

I think Howe's thigh was fine in the GF. (Ankle maybe not so fine.) The problem was just if it was hit again in the same spot (and they did not know this at the time). That's what happened in the pre-season. (Same hitman too: Moore.) |

Does that explain his woeful kick ins in the GF? _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Wed training and Howe did runs (to the plaudits of the team) stop starting each 40 metres till he warmed then some long runs—about 40 minutes all up
Grundy and Crisp were in the thick of action as was Daics—Phillips was out there
Looking real good was Elliott
