Post subject: The Forgotten Files ( Ben Reid )Reply with quote

Have we forgotten about our Premiership Player Ben Reid a little too much? Does anybody see Ben Reid still being part of our best 22?

The Club has only given him one year. Will it be the last for Big Ben? Or can he re-discover his All-Australian form across Half Back, when he was the number one intercepter in the competition.

Or can Reid become of value to Collingwood's forward line in 2019, and possibly beyond?

Thoughts?

Smile

He is a premiership player not a former. The only ex Brownlow medallist is Jobe Watson. Mick Malthouse is former coach but not a former premiership coach. To be fair I blame the media who keep repeating this rubbish.

Injury prone footballers nearing 30 it makes sense for a one year deal. I suspect he will be of immense value in the development of Kelly and won't play every game, they may rest him against the likes of Freo and Gold coast and he might not even travel interstate. We got Dunn and Howe to help develop the backline and it would be foolish to let a player of Reids intelligence and experience to go.

Ben,s game yesterday he had a real crack tho some unlike his past
some poor decision making and execution with ball in hand

But as with Moore and Elliott has be restricted to few match,s

Whilst the younger two were close to the mark Id give Ben time to get back to somewhere we know he can play

Reidy is one of my favourite players but he was done as a consistent senior player 5 years ago. He played his 95th game in 2013 and has managed 47 in 5 seasons since.

Some people, despite immense talent, are just not physically up to a 10-year AFL career. He's backing up for his 13th season this year. It would be wonderful to see him play a full season, without interruptions and recapture his peak but at an average of under 12 games per season so far over his career - and never having gone through uninjured, you wouldn't bet on it.

I think Ben Reids best days are behind him IMO. Back up to our best 22. Reidy's been a great player but injuries have cruelled his ability to stay on the park, to play games consistently and ultimately have cruelled his career.

Reid remains a good mark though but has invariably been a poor handballer and a less than consistent kisk for goal.

I love his contribution to the club and the fact of him being a premiership player but I'd be surprised if he makes it this year. Happy to have egg on my face.

WPT. Feel it may be past him as well but have towel ready to wipe egg

Also feel many of our goals (should he play fwd) will come from mids / fwds

And WHE / Stevo

As to him in back line he would struggle to contain a Reiwolt or Hawkins if in defence

Where would anyone see him play?

When he is up and about, He is our best CHB. No question.

After watching him closely I am convinced now that he should play back.
His long 60 m kicks out of defence should be useful.

It's good to meet someone who is convinced that he should play back.

I believe he is fighting for a spot against Mihocek and Moore. At this stage I would say both are ahead of him. I think Reid will play if either of these 2 get injured.
