We stood in the same spot at Vic Park for best part of 10 yrs ( right near Magpie race) and you got to know and see same faces every game (and away games too)
So if a little late to queue they saved you a spot in queue

That day on the return from Geelong in 53 we were all together—

Old African saying “All the villagers raise the child”. We were a village at Vic Park in those days

Interesting stuff, Baz. Did all the other clubs do that too? (The player who wrote the Essendon words claimed that in the late 50s they only sang it a few times a year, one of those being at some sort of Town Hall night.)

Supporters singing may be better than having The Fable Singers blared out from the loudspeakers now. I don't know why people were so hysterical about the AFL's plans to replace The Fable Singers' recordings last year. There's always a knee-jerk reaction to any change. If those people were 100 years old, to them The Fable Singers would be the change.

Rarely went to non Collingwood finals but 58 GF both Melbourne and us ran thru the crepe banner at end of race (see You Tube)

Interesting old VFL songs—in 1974 I was at Expo 74 in Spokane and as I came thru the gates I heard what I thought was Demons theme song but same tune—different words

It’s a grand old flag it’s a high flying flag
It’s the flag of the Red White and Blue

Ours was played in on scene of Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid (the whore house scene😃) Goodbye Dolly I must leave you etc

It would be interesting—when after Brittania ceased and Collingwood began did the song get introduced

There’s a long writing on Collingwood Forever

1906 appears the introduction whilst team on R & R in Tassie

It’s origin from 1896 Spanish —American war song

What I'd really like to know is when it started being sung by the players after every win. (And for other clubs, too.) I've not seen that info anywhere.

Goodbye Dolly Gray also has a couple of versions of its lyrics -- I guess, because the Brits didn't wear blue.

Melbourne's song was written in 1912, also on a Tassie trip.

This only 46 years back but found myself got into Black and White bar (under the grandstand) and players room was adjacent—the players were singing

We had knotted Carlton

One youtube clip mentions the VFL changed all the players' numbers before the '58 GF, just to show who was boss or something. Shocked

The Buckley extension makes perfect sense
We really turned a corner last season and the players obviously want to be part of ten club
Look at the extensions of the core group of players who will be around for 3 or more sessons
Sidey Beams WHE Crisp Scharenberg Stephenson JDG Moore Grundy Cox Adams Seir Caicos Brown's Kelly Quaynor Maynard Howe we wall be around for at least 3 years and make the cohesion going forward look and feel great
Buckley is the last part of that puzzle
Give him another 2 sessons at least and if need be extend him again at sessons end if we are successful
Eddie said when they reappointed Buckley finals was the barometer going forward and if he achieved that then his future at the club would reviewed as well which is what they have done
I think last season we over achieved in some ways but self belief is a intangible things and we had it in bucket loads
We also had that one man down another steps in to do the job mentality and it worked well
The players believe in what's happened you can see that easy and players taking less money and signing extended deals makes you understand that the culture is strong

Qld I was looking for words to explain my point and you whacked it up

When one man goes down another steps up is spot on

A motto well supported

"Whore house scene"? Sounds like you might find it in the directors x rated cut. Rolling Eyes
