Bancroft spent a total of more than 13 hours at the crease across the two innings, batting for 788 minutes in the match.

He fell just 28 balls short of breaking Steve Waugh’s all-time Shield record for the most deliveries faced in a game, the former Test captain’s mark of 649 set in 1996 against Queensland still the most in the Shield’s history.

Well, the plot thickens.

Given that Warner is expected to open in the Tests, 3 other batsmen are vying for the other spot.

Cam Bancroft has charged into consideration with 138* & 86.

Joe Burns did his chances no harm, with 60 & 80.

Marcus Harris starred in Victoria's big win against Q'land, with 95 & 174.

Jackson Bird roared back into calculations with 11 wickets in Tasmania's win. Has Test experience and can swing the ball.

Will Pucovski disappointed with a double failure.

Jon Holland helped Victoria to a win, with a second innings 5/72.

I would like to see Warner and Bancroft open, with Harris at 3 and Smith at 4.

Khawaja will bat at first drop, leaving 2 of Harris, Burns and Bancroft out of the XI.

Yes, a fair bit of cricket before the Ashes squad is selected - the current T20 & ODIs against India, 3 Shield matches and the World ODI Cup.

If the selectors are still interested in the leg spinner, Mitchell Swepson, his 4/76 & 4/107 kept him under notice
