While fun to parody its as definitive as the Rashomon effect🙄

I’ve called my daughters my wife’s name before, mixed their names up etc on plenty of occasions, means nothing.

Conservative judges rule to continue to disenfranchise voters (read exclude blacks and the poor) from having votes counted post the election day due to the corona-virus and other postal delays (In Wisconsin)

"...The Supreme Court on Monday night rejected a pandemic-related request from Democrats and civil rights groups to extend the deadline for counting mail-in ballots received after Election Day in the key battleground state of Wisconsin.

The vote was 5 to 3, with the Republican-nominated conservatives in the majority and the Democratic-nominated liberals in dissent. The court’s order showed the deep division within the court about the series of pandemic-related election cases that have come to dominate its agenda.

The court’s conservatives say they must defer to state officials on election decisions made in the largely Republican-run states, and the liberal justices say there is a need for dramatic action by judges to ensure the franchise for endangered voters during an unprecedented time....
"

The alleged rapist Judge Kavanagh is front and square here

“On the scales of both constitutional justice and electoral accuracy, protecting the right to vote in a health crisis outweighs conforming to a deadline created in safer days,” liberal Justice Elena Kagan wrote in dissent

Not to detract from the news story, but let's not forget that Biden is also an alleged rapist, and that the accusation against Kavanaugh had a similar evidence basis (i.e. one woman's word against his). Both claims were made decades after the alleged incident during highly politicised moments (Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings and Biden's primary race). I see no reason to assume one allegation is true and not the other apart from sheer partisanship.

Kavanaugh and Thomas were both accused of alleged crimes. This isn't a new playbook by Democrats.

Great to see ACB was confirmed today.

Why is is great to see her confirned when it broke all the conventions of Judicial appoin tment just before an election and we've just seen more disenfranchisement through the juducal outcome in Wisconsin?

You make it sound like it's unprecedented to undertake a judicial appointment in an election year, or in-between election day and inauguration day.

The President has a 4-year term, and a third of Senators are up for re-election every 2 years. They had the constitutional authority to proceed with filling the vacancy if they wished.

History has shown the Senate has confirmed a nominee in an election year or even in-between an election and the inauguration of a new president.

While it's easy to be appalled by the Republicans' hypocrisy in rushing through Barrett's confirmation – and that they are nominating another right-wing Catholic extremist to begin with – I do still think that the real act of bastardry was blocking the Merrick Garland vote in 2016 on a bogus principle that they weren't even, as it happens, willing to institute as a new precedent.

One would think that the US public (the vast majority of whom do not share Barrett's social and economic views) would be unwilling to forgive and forget, and that this might even end up being a major factor in Trump being voted out of office. But McConnell and his cronies may well feel that they get the last laugh regardless – having managed to, in the space of just four years, reshape the Supreme Court, and potentially US society, for a generation. If Biden achieves nothing else in office, he should pull the rug out from under the Republicans by chucking out the current Supreme Court altogether and starting again from scratch. It's ridiculous that the country should be held to ransom by a minority of extremists.

^ It might surprise you, but I happen to agree that Garland was entitled to a hearing and vote.

Honest question. Do you seriously believe what you wrote?

If so, how do you explain the way the Republicans denied the right of the previous administration to appoint a judge far, far away from election day, but now feel entitled to rush yet another one in.

Take note, in your answer, that the majority of the Supreme Court judges now sitting have been appointed by administrations which lost the vote, and explain how, in a democracy, this is good or reasonable.

As I said above, Garland was entitled to a hearing and vote. McConnell was wrong to deny him that.

On your last point, those administrations won the electoral college which is what matters. Your obsession with the national popular vote doesn't change that.

The problem with appointing 48 year old judges to their Supreme Court, of course, is that when they get cancer, it takes them out really quickly.

You mean "democracy". It's a word. Look it up.

Why are you obsessed with denying the will of the people? What possible excuse can you make for it?

^ Look up the "Electoral College" system. It's been deciding US Presidential elections since 1788.

So you were appalled when Gillard won the election in 2010 with 37% of the vote?
