Apologies for a bit of self promotion, but this article in today's Age (originally published in the Sydney Morning Herald last week) might interest a few of my fellow Nicksters, as it talks a fair bit about my connection with and love for Collingwood. I just hope Eddie realises I was taking the piss when I suggested he was bullshitting! Ha ha.
For anyone interested, my band, Strange Tenants, are playing a one-off gig in Melbourne this Saturday night, 1 December, at The Curtin, 29 Lygon St, Carlton.

Does your user name here come from the Specials 1979 remake of "Rudy, A Message to You'? That song is still in my head even after all of these years passing by. |

Yep. Rude boys were the name of street gangs in Jamaica in the early 60s when/where ska music was born. There was song from that time 'Message to You Rudy' by Dandy Livingstone, which was covered by The Specials in the UK in the late 1970s. Since then, many fans of ska music call themselves rudies or rude boys and rude girls. |

Thanks.
Always liked the song but had no idea what it was about. |

I'm pretty sure I heard you on RRR the other day with your Bono story. I too was at the '81 Lygon St Festival, but I wouldn't remember who we saw play, lost far too many brain cells since.
Cheers Rudey. |

Well spotted. Where does "5ftwod" come from? I don't think Heath Shephard was playing on the wing, and that was 1989, which I guess is too recent... |

Nice article. I've heard Eddie refer to the band before and how he used to sneak into shows underage _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I've had a few beers with Bono, and he's a ripping bloke. Definitely not a tool. Maybe it takes one to know one? |

Ricky Barham. Not actually on debut, but in the game in which he started on the ground for the first time. Hawks unfurled the premiership flag, Barham played on Eade and destroyed him, and the Pies who had finished bottom the year before had a good win. |

I was there that day at Princess Park. Ricky Barham played some brilliant games, but chronic hamstring injuries cut short his career. |

PS I'm a fan of your band, Rudeboy. Just wondering what the Bono story is (I can't find a RRR link to the interview). I've met him a few times since the 1990's, the last time being in 2010, and had a few drinks with him. He was a top bloke, not just to me but everyone he spoke with. Back in the 1980's, yeah even their best friends thought they were wankers! The thing is, Bono's aware of it and happy to call out his own bullshit, and happy for his mates to do the same. I've never met a more humble, self-deprecating guy. Eddie's a close second. |
