Murray Weideman turns 74 today.

Stand in Captain for the injured Frank Tuck in our glorious record saving 1958 premiership triumph.

Known as The Enforcer Murray was loved by Pies fans and equally loathed by the opposition. But he was more than just a hard man winning three Copelands in '57, '61 and '62 with big games bringing the best out of the supreme showman.

Murray played 180 games and kicked 262 goals from 1953 to 1963 and prematurely retired from football to take up a wrestling career in 1964.

Murray did return to coach Collingwood in 1975 and the infamous first wooden spoon on 1976 after having a very public falling out with the president Ted Parker....sorry my bad, Ern Clarke.

Murray now heads up the Heart of Collingwood Foundation established by the Collingwood FC Past Players Association to provide funding for much needed medical treatment for past players still struggling with injuries.

A giant of a man with an equally giant heart and a sense of humour that lights up a room everytime. Living in SA now we don't get to see much of The Weed, but if you do, go up and say G'day, he loves a chat.

Happy Birthday Enforcer!

Yes he and Hooker Harrison belted Melbourne in 1958, literally, so the Demon hard men spent 3/4 of the match concentrating on revenge not the scoreboard. Great tactics back then if you tried them today the AFL would go mental.

Happy Birthday “Weed” and I’m another who was at the G in Sept 1958 👍👍

Those solicitors, surgeons and other toffy dicks didn’t like it hard that great day

You went to wrestling and dated an early TV sweetheart Arlene Andrawatha

What is a toffy dick?
Why is it preferable for a toffy dick to be soft than hard?

Mate those “toffy dicks” aka the 50,s Melbourne players complained about having to play teams in “slum” parts of town—us and Fitzroy in particular

So sarcasm I used IMHO is well founded—-and yes they were “soft” when it
was required to put your body between you and your opponent when the game got physical in that classic Grannie

Correct in one sense, but he did not turn 82 today. Look at the dates of the first few posts.
(If he's Collingwood royalty, this could be like the Queen's "Birthday", of course.)

Goes well with a sticky date.
