Very difficult draw. We had a relatively easy draw this year refelcting our 13th position in 2017. Very pleased having Friday night games. I don't like Thurday night matches as footy is over-saturated in my view. (OK for Anzac day and Easter weekend though as the are atypical in many respects in realion to the rest of the year - having said that I still want Good Friday to be a football free day).

Very disappointed we are not playing Carlton twice as that is always a blockbuster and I want to even and go past the win loss / ledger.

Robbo's written a Pulitzer-worthy article that the 2019 fixture is a disaster for Colllingwood haters, who have to watch us on TV.

I dunno what Robbo's whinging about, Essendon has an equally good run with TV next year! Clickbait...

^ When watching a neutral game, its always good to have someone to barrack for, or against. So as an entertainment package, it's good to have us up there as a feature.

If you hate Collingwood, its good to barrack hard for the opposition. Like we do against Carlton and Essendon. But if they're pathetic, what is the point?

On the flip side, watching say GCS vs North, is like dancing with your sister. It doesn't bring any emotion (love or hate) to the surface. Therefore doesn't engage the viewer.

Well I'm back from holidays had to keep "She who must be obeyed" happy

The draw is what it is but what some people fail to realise that 2020 is the year the AFL commence negotiations for the next media rights deal
It's a rolling process
They will use data from 2019 as to where they see the game heading towards the next deal commencing
So giving Collingwood loads of prime time games and more games in Melbourne makes the AFL product more valuable to broadcasters
Let's face it when Collingwood is strong the games crowds and revenue are up simple as that
Having 3 or 4 Melbourne clubs flying increases the AFL bargaining powers
If you look closely there's only 8 Thursday night games but in the next deal I'm guessing there will be 1 every week (to appease Foxtel)

More our draw we have to win 14-15 games to make finals and I can see us doing that even with this draw
If there's a natural improvement in the team again and we get players like Dunn Elliott Scharenberg Moore Reid Wells all pushing for selection then we are a much better side than the one that finished off 2018

Just remember Nicksters, it's not just who and where we play, but the other bastards have to play US and some of them TWICE. How unlucky are they?

Pretty sure that in 2010 we had the other teams from the top 4 in 2009 twice.

Turned out that they were the same top 4 in 2010.

Expect 4 of the double up sides we play will be top 8, so looks like we will play 11 times against top 8 and 11 times against non top 8 sides.

Tough draw but we can do it.

Funny you bring that up because I am almost sure we had the hardest draw in 2010 and was going to post it also

it only a hard draw if the teams you play twice are better than you. i think you guys are referring to 2011 where we had the draw from hell.
.

No it was definitely 2010.

Also played Hawthorn and Carlton twice, who both made finals that year as well.
Also played Essendon and Melbourne twice, the latter for a 1 point win and a draw.

The difficulty of the draw is never an excuse to lower our high standards we set this past season. Call me an optimist but the fixture could've been a whole lot worse for us.

I label the early assessments of any team's fixture, "irrelevant", until the season proper starts. A hard draw can turn into an easy draw in a snap.

Unless I'm mistaken, we are a real chance this year.

I reckon both of us got a fairly difficult draw but who knows what'll happen. I'm curious to see how they'll fare this year after winning the flag. I'm unsure how they'll respond to the pressure attached to being the current premiers.

Eight six-day turnarounds... I wonder what effect that has on injury profiles...
