Unfortunately I have to agree, their bodies are too small - it would be different if they had showed more skill but neither have and I can't see either of them forcing their way back into the side bar several injuries.

I think you are being a bit harsh on a couple of kids who have only played a handful of games.

I've seen plenty in both to indicate they'll be big improvers next year.

I’m with Skids on this one. Most people think we will have the best mid field in the comp in 2019 ( and likely beyond )
These two would both be capable of regular games in weaker teams next year. Part of the challenge will be adding more strings to their bows to help with their versatility.
I wouldn’t be writing either of them off just yet but it’s up to them how they respond when the opportunity presents itself.

I think we will be still looking to move on older and injury prone players at the end of 2019 before the club starts putting a line through these two.

Personally I think Daics has at least shown a bit at AFL level in that he’s had a game in the best players. Brown hasn’t shown anything other than he’s an honest toiler which = list clogger. I hope I’m wrong but it’s do or die for the latter whilst the former probably has a couple of seasons.

i'd be really surprised if all of Blair, Smith, McLarty, Broomhead, Murray aren't gone and it wouldnt surprise me to see Greenwood disappear as well. I am right that none of them have contracts, correct?

Broomhead to be delisted BUT redrafted as rookie for one year, which is fair.

I would also add, that there is zero chance that Wills, Wells, Reid and Crocker are with us in 2020. Goldsack would be lucky as well.

Wills, if he can manage to stay on the park, might be a chance to takeover the Greenwood role at the end of 2019, I'd suggest. He still has youth on his side, and a strong physique to execute this task.

its funny, my opinion of the two is exactly the opposite. I think Brown has elite hand skills and is a good extractor which might suggest a future as an in and under type once he builds up a little and builds his tank. Daics is a fine player (is there any greater insult) but there just anything that i have seen that doesnt lead me to conclude that if his name wasn't Daicos, he'd be on the fringes just like Broomhead is.

Still bullish on both Daicos and Brown probably equally so.

Made good progress in 2018 and if it follows linearly would maintain their list status for 2020.

Sier is about 6 months older than Brown and another 6 months to Daicos.

I see things a little differently. 2 players I expect will be under heavy scrutiny are Moore and Beams. Perhaps not from within the club but pretty much everyone else.

Good signs!

Who's burning
One of the most impressive performers for the Magpies this pre-season has been Josh Daicos, who has attacked training with the determination of a young man keen to explore his growing potential. The third-year midfield prospect has played 12 AFL games, including 10 in succession to round 20 last year, and showed his intent by finishing sixth in a time trial early in December. The 20-year-old starred on a wing during match simulation last Monday, his evasive skills and class on both sides being prominent, and repeatedly powered away from teammates in his running group with a surprising turn of speed. He'll need to keep improving if he is to find a spot in the Pies' strong midfield.

As per my training report, Josh has been impressive. Looks very fit and is moving well, with good skills. Hard work to break into our midfield, but could be a shot for a bench spot.

Look, I think McLarty is certainly going to struggle at AFL level this season.
