If fit, Wells would have played in the GF and Aish would have been left out and Varcoe would have played on the half back line. Then how would Shuey and Sheed have gone with Wells contesting the ball and the Hutchins would have had more than Sidebottom to worry about. The point is nobody knows how Wells will go next year and the fact he has a contract and wants to play is enough for me to welcome him honouring the final year of his contract.

He’ll go like a 34 year old who has played 45 games in 5 seasons, ie not very well most weeks.

im thinking the other way around. If we get dozen games out of him especially around finals time then its worth it.

Imagine Wells in our already stacked up midfield !!

How old is he? Again its not worth the risk, the guy is injury prone and if you go down a player in a game most games you're likely to lose.

The question has to be, is trying to squeeze 12 games out of an 'old injury prone' midfielder worth the gamble of maybe losing you the four point every times he plays worth it?

I suspect the answer is a clear no.

You make good points but he could come good.
The problem is that we have to pay him either way.

If it was up to me I would have given him a two year contract but who knows what the inner workings are of the club. Maybe we had to spend the money on someone to fit our cap....

Anyway we are both entitled to our opinions and I know Wells is a game changer when fit. There are many examples of injury prone players coming good, when all seemed improbable.

I have a photograph of the 1990 premiership team on the wall of my office. The player staring back at me on the far left of the middle row was extremely injury prone. So much so that I had written him off as being a meaningful contributor long before the 90 season. I was wrong (and actually told him that on the night they won the flag, not that he would remember it). Not only did he play in that premiership, but he started the quarter time brawl and on another occasion ko'd Rhys Jones.

I would love for us to be that wrong about Wells too.

It's a shame we couldn't delist Wells as I don't expect we'll ever get any value from him, but he is entitled to see out the final year of his contract.

Lynch was Re-Signed this year

But I think it was just for one more year. If he doesn't considerably improve, he'll probably be gonski at year's end.

Is this more likely than Wells starting a quarter-time brawl and KOing someone?

The problem is, the club may well agree with your assessment, but Wells is legally entitled to play out his final year - rather than accept a payout. We are therefore locked into honouring the final year of his contract, whether we want to or not.

Not quite. If we really want to, we could delist him and break the contract. We'd carry the cost of his contract in our 2019 salary cap meaning we get no relief that way, but would have an extra list spot if we could afford to pay for it.

I';m guessing it's as much a financial decision as a list management one. We're going to be paying for him anyway, if we get him fit he will provide more than a first year draftee even if only in a few games.

Totally; Wells would have been shattered his body failed him for the 2nd half of 2018, when we came home flying. A fit Wells would have been a premiership player in 2018.

We can only hope for a miracle in 2019, he would be the icing on the cake.

AFL Live app has “Your clubs delisted players “. Each club has a medium to large list (circa 24/10/2018)

We have Fasolo only———-looks weird when you see all 18 clubs 🤪

When Daniel Wells plays he makes a valuable contribution to the side. Instead of focusing upon his unavailability being a factor to not winning this year; I have been waiting for Darcy Moore, apart from his "possible potential", plus Jamie Elliot, to make valuable contributions to a season, and thus upon any premiership.
