Michelle Guthrie: The inside story behind her sacking

https://www.theage.com.au/business/companies/michelle-guthrie-the-inside-story-behind-her-sacking-20180924-p505ok.html

"But the conversation soon took a turn for the worse. Turnbull, who was communications minister before ousting Tony Abbott to become prime minister, complained about the 7.30’s chief political correspondent Andrew Probyn. A source familiar with the conversation said Turnbull accused Probyn of "anti-government" bias.

Like many media executives who find themselves facing a high-level government complaint, Guthrie did her best to give a non-committal reply. But Turnbull is believed to have been particularly angry when, three months later in December 2017, Probyn was promoted to political editor for ABC News.
...

In a statement on Monday Guthrie said that "at no point" had the board raised concerns about the digital transformation with her.

However, ABC insiders say she was made aware that her job was in jeopardy several weeks ago. Milne and other members of the board including Kirstin Ferguson and Donny Walford were becoming increasingly frustrated by what they believed were her leadership failings, according to people familiar with the conversations.
...

Guthrie was then told she needed to go for three main reasons: low staff morale; her travel to Singapore; and poor feedback from executives working for her."

Shock sacking of ABC boss Michelle Guthrie could cost taxpayers millions

https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/shock-sacking-of-abc-boss-michelle-guthrie-could-cost-taxpayers-millions-20180924-p505ne.html

"She warned she was investigating her legal options, and hired Kate Eastman SC from New Chambers and Ruveni Kelleher from commercial law firm JWS.

Ms Guthrie earned $900,000 a year. ABC sources were unable to confirm the likely sum, if any, of her final payout."

Seriously under remunerated considering the size and scope of the role.

'They hate her': emails show ABC chairman told Michelle Guthrie to fire Emma Alberici

https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/they-hate-her-emails-show-abc-chairman-told-michelle-guthrie-to-fire-emma-alberici-20180925-p505z4.html

So did Emma Alberici threaten or take legal action (or will she now, if she these emails are news to her)?

Perhaps she might wait until she has been legally wronged. But what would I know.

Is this taking the law into their own hands?

The mad Misogynist Monk cut the ABC funding to shreds. He appointed Michelle Guthrie & The Prince of Point Piper appointed Milne as Chairman.

For all Guthries defiencies she protected staff & programmes from political interference.

Milne as Turnmbull mate sacked Guthrie. Now we learn that this blike Milne sent an email directing Guthrie to sack the journalist Emma Albarechi. Alberichi amonsgt other things apparently critisized some businesses that Milne was part of and that pissed of captains of industry the the Goverment.

Milne has refused to fully answer his role. The conflict of interest as well as doing the goverments bidding means he needs to either resign or stand aside. The libs have been doing Murdochs bidding unashamdly for quite some time. When in Goverment the ABC gets attacked by the ALP too.

However this action by Chairman Milne is over and above and clearly appears to be political interference. He needs to either step aside & an independent investigation needs to occur or he neds to resign. I suggest the latter as he has made a serious blunder. Emails have been made public. He sems a bit like Max - Gawn.

Coalition launches inquiry into ABC email revelations as chairman Justin Milne survives board talks

https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/abc-board-scrambles-to-meet-as-calls-mount-for-justin-milne-to-resign-20180926-p5063n.html

'Former ABC chairman David Hill described the chairman’s intervention as “deeply disturbing if the reports are true”, saying Mr Milne “has to go” and should “consider his position”.

“The fundamental role of the board of the ABC and its chairman, indeed its legal responsibility is to protect the independence and impartiality of the ABC,” Mr Hill said on ABC 24.

“And here we have reports that the chairman, to handle political pressure from Canberra, is suggesting that the managing director dismiss, offer as a sacrificial lamb one of the ABC's top journalists, it's quite extraordinary. And it's not the chairman's job.

“Where we are at right now is I think the chairman put himself in a totally untenable position." '

Then again, he may have just pushed for Alberici to be sacked because she was an embarrassment to the good name of the ABC:

You missed the point. See this as a clear thinking exercise. He cannot ask for anyones sacking because the Government of the day doesn’t like it. An email has been written by him saying so. He needs to explain. This is not difficult. Even Andrew Bolt says he needs to resign. He is more compromised than a bishop being caught in bed with a choirboy.
