From Whateley:
“Is it time for the MCC to take some responsibility to ensure the ground is full when demand is so high and the conventions of the past that they have in place, it’s time to give those up and make sure those tickets are sold either first to your own or to the 50,000 people desperate to be in those last 5,000 seats,” Whateley told SEN’s Crunch Time.

I'm not able to get to the game due to work etc but when I see how hard it is to get a ticket and then see all those vacant seats... terrible situation.

Steven Smith is president of the MCC.

For a second I thought the cricketer Steve Smith had encouraged our boys to do a bit of ball tampering...

Yep, the AFL needs to tell the MCC to pull their heads out. Seeing an empty stand last week was a disgrace.

I was in the MCC and there are many members who don't even sit down. They spend the game in the numerous bars watching the game. I bet if they cleared the bars there wouldn't be a vacant seat.

Couldn't agree more. So wasteful. Honestly, the very existence of this vast MCC area, taking up huge portions of the arena and restricting movement through it purely to keep the riff-raff away from the toffs (good luck getting from one side of the ground to the other without exiting the stadium), is a blight on the MCG, and you all know what I think of its pretentious and elitist attitudes. And yes, the fact that they can't even fill their own seats when they are in such high demand is an embarrassment.

He used to play for Demons... must have got his head kicked by a donkey from the early age.

There was 2500 unused spaces inside the MCC on Friday. Article in the Sun today about reviewing the allocation of reserved vs walk up. Thank god too, ridiculous that it has taken so long

The new “buzz” from Take Notice Inc is the term Visual Pollution

Was the empty seat just that or just a Visual “Don’t Care”

Never set up an enquiry unless you know in advance what its findings will be. Sir Humphrey Appleby

I'm disappointed that he wasn't named in the article. People deserve to know who is responsible.

you could have sold those seats for $200 and filled them
200 X 2500 = $500000
what a waste

Crowd figures from a match are derived from the gate...not people sitting on seats. So no the 5000 where not all up at the bar if the crowd figures don't reach 95,000

Am saddened that maybe 5,000 did not witness this game and the reason I say this was a comment on Sunday Game Day I think (could have been Barney)

He said for a tough uncompromising Pre Lim this was one of the cleanest free flowing games he had seen(just what AFL appear to want)

So I went back and watched the third and final quarter and know what

He was right

Haven't we been here before? The MCC promises to review and nothing happens?

That suggests to me that there's even more potential for bigger crowds!

Why claim a seat if you're not going to use it!?
