A simple poll before selection on Thursday

If yes, who is omitted?

High risk high reward.

Does the reward outweigh the risk?

? Mayne is omitted.

Listening to Bucks on the podcast, Darcy has a few boxes to tick.

If he ticks all of them, it makes him a lower risk selection, so he plays.

Who is omitted assuming all other players are fit from last week?

I said no.

Dont mess with winning form.

And Richmond don't have a tall forward line, so we don't need to bring in a tall defender.

Trust in the Sack.

Very very hard call.

Choice of 3. Greenwood, Mayne or Aish depending on what matchups they want.

The question this poll asks is poorly conceived. Being "fit" is one thing. Being able to play a role in a Prelim final is quite another.

Darcy has yet to resume full training. According to Walsh's injury report (out 4:40pm this arvo) he "may join in full training tomorrow [Wed] unencumbered".

Then its a matter of deciding if he's gone through sufficient preparation and has got the "miles in his legs".

(see: http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/video/2018-09-18/injuries-news-good-for-key-trio )

He's not looking very likely even for the GF let alone the Prelim.

I think you're overthinking this. I just put up a simple poll with the question "If deemded fit and if he declare himself fit" that is a hypothetical by any measure.

Must return via the seconds.

If there are no seconds games, tough luck. We need players who can stay on the park. For four quarters, not two. Anyway, who is he going to play on? Richmond don't have a second tall. And we need players who can run hard all day, not injury magnets who haven't played a decent string of senior games one after the other since 2017.

It's not a hard question. It's a no-brainer. You never, ever risk injured players n finals.

I heard that as "coach's speak" for we're not going to play him.

No. Too much pressure and to much risk in too many ways in the circumstances.

Playing Richmond on Friday night requires confidence based on performance. The team that played the Giants all have that and have bonded around it. The spotlight on Darcy Moore would be excruciating. There will be no time for him to get accustomed to the level, speed and intensity of a prelim and coming off an injury since round 10(I think) is just not a sound introduction. You can bet Hardwick would see him as a huge tactical opportunity.

The responsibility to his team and the potential for psychological harm for the future needs to be considered also.

The wife is 100% adamant No and would be disgusted if he plays.

I like the boy but it's still a No.

Aish plays - it is shocking to me he is in anyone's mind to be omitted.
Mayne is the most vulnerable for sure and has lost his very best form.

I'm theorising that the Moore/Mayne discussion will be good for Chris and will see him respond with additional intensity come Friday night.

Mayne's best 2018 form is excellent and outweighs the huge risk that Darcy would be. I think he has finished 1 AFL match this season but I dont recall which one. Before Sydney?
It isnt only 2018 either, there would be a handful of other matches where he hasn't ventured over the line in the last quarter throughout his short career.

no, not unless he was the last player available on the list, even then I'd rather wheel out Dunn in a wheelchair if we had to before Moore
