Post subject: How to get Steven May | |
|
As it stands today, Pies should offer pick 16 and Crocker and Smith/Oxley whom all have either senior playing history at a strong club culture plus Queensland heritage. They're in an age bracket that can make a material difference to the Gold Coast Suns too. Stewart Dew won't want to carry a "playing passenger" in may for 12 more months so Ned Guy, hold your line! _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum

Interesting news. And who are we going to offer up for trade to get Pick 16 from Richmond? _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

I doubt Crocker would want to move to Qld, isn't he a part time carer for his ill father? _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

^^^ Yep, and he grew up next door to Scotty Burns, having a kick with him on the street. Mad Pies fan. Doubt very much he'd want to go, nor would GCS consider him (and Smith/Ox) as assets... |

By the time they hand out priority picks and compensation picks, even if the Tigers do get lucky against us, we will be closer to pick 20. In real terms that’s not even a first rounder. It just won’t happen.
And we ( on here ) need to move on from bundling up our surplus needs to make it appear more desirable for a dud club to ressurect a couple unfulfilling careers. Crap clubs are looking to improve, not just tread water.
And what happens when we want Quaynor and Kelly and we don’t have a first or second round pick ( traded to swans for Murray ) to accumulate any points for them ?
The simplest and fair way to get May, Quaynor and Kelly into the club is to offer up both our first rounders ( 2018 / 2019 ) and push for G C S 2018 second round pick to come back to us. A dollop of mayo would probably also be required in the deal.
A few on here bang on about him not being worth two first rounders but we aren’t talking single digit picks here. Pick 18 and a likely 2019 pick in the high teens is hardly anything special, particularly when you get their 2018 second rounder back again ( around 23 )
All the above is based on Moore re signing with the club but if he should be traded, then the landscape for any May trade would change dramatically ( and so would the urgency ) |

Some good points. I remember when Malthouse had a full imprimatur in the summer of 2000 and we effectively off loaded top players whom didn't want to be there like Mal Michael and Paul Williams for slight under's to essentially rebuild a culture. Think teh Gold Coast shall buckle and accept a first rounder and steak knives. Just my gut. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

As much as Gold Coast are struggling, Smith and Oxley ain't worth much at all.
They may consider rookie positions for one of them but wouldn't waste a spot on their list. _________________ "You must be a parking ticket, cuz you got fine written all over you" Glen Quagmire |

Believe it or not, considering how shit they are, my mail is the Gold Coast have serious salary cap problems and so may be keen to off-load May, knowing that they need a full 5 yr re-build anyway. |

I expect it would take two first rounders if we aren't giving up a significant player. They could get a top 5 pick for him next year.
We can bank on both of them being late first rounders (still some risk for next year given evenness of the comp) and that deal is fine. May would fit into our team very well, assuming we keep Moore. _________________ Well done boys! |

It may well take a fair commitment on our behalf to secure May, but would likely be worth it. Hopefully we load things a bit more into next season and still access Quaynor and Kelly this year given we have some exclusivity and they are both likely types.
I am not sure what players are in the pipeline for the following year in this respect.
May can be an important part of our structure. He's one of the best in his position and certain players like J McGovern will not become available as they are at stronger clubs. Seize May while we have the chance. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

The return for two first rounders ( likely ) both in the late teens, is a 5 year permanent fixture as an experienced K P D. Our window remains open at its best, while Pendlebury and Sidey continue to play good footy.
On the other hand, who can guarantee anything with pick 18 in the national draft ? He may be a superstar or he may be a dud.
At least we have a fair sample size of what we get with May. |

Gold coast will either get a good deal or hold him to his contract. If he goes next year they likely get an early draft pick as a comp pick, so why not?
If we can deal, fair enough. If not, shelve it for 12 months, send reid to DARPA over pre season to get Bionic legs, get darcy's body right, maybe rookie another VFL CHB and just reload. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
