Heading into the Prelim with an exciting and newish looking team, against the raging flag favourite.

This time round though, we're not coming off an energy sapping, extra time win in WA.

1. Is this side as good as '07?

2. Are Richmond as good as '07 Geelong?

I'm thinking probably not to the 1st question but definitely not to the second

The difference was in 2007, we had a glaring weakness - we did not have a decent ruckman. This time round, I actually think we have good players on all lines and the best midfield and ruck combo in the AFL. If not for injuries, we would have finished on top of the ladder and been red hot flag favourites.

Yes, ruck is the obvious difference and a massive one at that but overall, I think the '07 side had more talent (I actually rate it the best team not to win a flag, in my time). In saying that, I don't think Richmond are anywhere near as good as Cats '07

Which is why we have everything to lose in our unlikely appearance in the PF. A win against Geelong in 2007 would given the ineptitude Power performance the following week made a win very likely.

I know Collingwood don't do finals fairytales, more nightmares, but we have another chance at the improbable.

Richmond is a champion team, not a team of champions, they have very few real top line players. They rely on their system and role players.

We're pretty much the same. It won't be individual brilliance that wins the game, but collective team effort til the final siren.

So how do we break down their system while not compromising ours by too much extent - it's do or die and the odds are against us - we have nothing to lose, and everything to lose at the same time but we are here NOW.

We can play chaos ball if that works, but going into F50 we need to take a breathe and hit targets in good position to convert.

Quick movement breaks their system down, but poor kicking into F50 plays into their hands.
The other option is to take their backline out of the equation by running the ball inside 50 and goaling that way.

Back in '07 we did have a 7 day break going into the prelim though.
1. I feel the '18 side is on a par with '07. I think hindsight (and the premiership of '10) makes that side look better than they actually were at the time. Yes, we became a great side, but weren't quite at that level in '07. Similarly, we may look back on the side of '18 as the start of something big.
2. No way Richmond are anywhere near as good as '07 Geelong. They are certainly beatable, and not as invincible as those in the media make out. Having said that, the tiger's extra rest (and our shortened rest) will make our task very difficult.

We also need to remember they have won 4 of their last 6 games by less then 10 points... they're beatable.

A good observation , I reckon our 2007 team had more experience , but you never know , if all our forwards can fire we are a big chance.
