Still, this team continues to find ways to win and get over the line. No one expected us to get this far but here we are, in a prelim. Anything is possible now. I expected a bit more enthusiasm from the crowd though. We certainly didn't bring the noise but we brought the Valium. |
Gee the crowd were as loud as hell on tv. Thought the fans did a wonderful job to help the boys! |
Maybe it was where I was sitting. Not a lot of excitement. I need to be round more one eyed people who like to lose their shit like I do. |
The 50m arc on the southern stand side (punt road end) was loud as all F and we were losing our shit. The COOOLLLIIINNNGGGWWWOOODDD chant started from this region area ad nauseum in the second half. It was rocking.
I did my utmost to be dobbed in to the anti social hotline, but there werent enough GWS fans to make the SMS. |
Thought the fans were loud, passionate, and we did a great job to get the boys over the line.
Will be even more passion next week, and the atmosphere and banter between opposing supporters will be huge. _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing |

West Coast got the first 3 against us and won, so stat is wrong |

Jezza, thanks very much (again). Great stuff and your work is truly appreciated.
(loved the comments re Maynard about being "shtum" then he tells the world about being named on Toby Greene!!) _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

This was really an 8 goal win. We smashed them in most departments and only our errant kicking for goal made it a close game.
As it turns out, I think losing to the Eagles was a blessing in disguise, as it has allowed our team to gather momentum and form, especially for Treloar, Goldy and Howe. |

I always feel I get to watch 2 games after going to a game live and watching the recording later...same last night. Get an often different perspective watching it on tv. That's not to say the tv perspective is the right one - often the commentators influence how the game is perceived by the viewer.
One howler the tv commentary made last night, of which a massive effort went unnoticed and unappreciated:
Mid last quarter and we needed to repel every gws attack...gws pumped the ball out of our forward line to a seemingly open Jeremy Cameron in the middle of the ground...steele bolted from 30m away to reach Cameron and punched the ball a split second before he was going to mark it and be away...for mine was potentially the game saving moment (not the only heroic act in the last qtr, but a huge one nonetheless)...Brayshaw's commentary: "fisted away by cameron"...no mention of steele's efforts nor where he came from. _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing |

Outstanding result. Make no mistake we dominated but not reflected on scoreboard. That was very flattering to GWS.
Happy nevertheless - this team has balls. |

Yes, that was the kick out after Mihoceks point in the last. It was both brilliant and pivotal by Sidey - if Cameron took that, there were Giants everywhere forward of the ball.
Interestingly, that was the second one-on-one aerial contest Sidey won against Cameron in the game. Sidey got a free kick when he got in to cut off a kick out of defence to Camerons advantage in the first quarter. |

On a more serious note, what is with Phillips kicking? I understand that he can occasionally be putrid with ball in hand but Im rewatching the first half at the moment and he has not yet hit a single kick properly or to where he it intended to go - and its over halfway through the second quarter. Even Adams managed to put one kick accidentally into JDGs hands in the first quarter.
This was a real problem for Phillips against top sides early in the season. I hope he isnt working back into form for another momentum-crushing performance against Richmond next week.
Im not criticising his effort or his run but his ball use is often so awful it makes me want to eat my own eyeballs. |

Also, with 14.40 to play in the second quarter, WHE took one of the marks of the season two yards out between the goal and behind posts. I couldnt believe it wasnt paid watching it live. I have now reviewed it frame by frame trying to see whether the GWS player behind might have had a first fingernail on the ball - but Ive got nothing. So far as I can tell from repeated views, WHE was the only one who touched it, juggled it down and then held it all the way. |

Phillips kicked a few on his non-preferred last night, more than normal. Not totally effective, but not uneffective either. If he can improve there by continually doing it he'll be a SS style weapon. _________________ Get back on top. |

Finally ole mate we can agree on something
You're 100% correct Trelaor and Adams were brilliant took the game by the scruff of the neck and lifted the team up and carried them forward
Was sensational to watch |

For whatever reason, I have never seen him get caught out on his right side so often in a game. Just seemed like he spent a lot of the game on the wrong boundary side for a left footer. Im a fan but he was ordinary last night. Might also be that the instruction was dont corral him, always pressure up on him.
It wasnt pretty though.
