Saw a piece on ABC Asia about the Magpies thrashing Richmond in the wheelchair footy Grand Final. Eddy was everywhere. Well done, to both sides, but you can never have enough silverware.

A subject close to my heart.

In '63, I was in the Austin hospital, in Heidelberg, after a spinal op. The Demons signed me up to play in the Melbourne Wheelchair Basketball League. We won the GF and I was selected to represent Victoria in a reserves match against NSW, in Albury.

We won that one and I was named on the bench for the main game. One of our boys got injured, early, so I got some good time in the 'seniors'. I accidentally threw a miracle pass to our main goal shooter and we won, in the last minute.

This was an enormous deal for me, as I grew up with that big white V firmly in my mind. And that was our uniform - a navy blue t-shirt with the big white V on it. Smile

A young Ricky Watt was still in high school, then, and was playing for the Pies, on a wing. He, and fellow students, came out to the Austin, one afternoon, to shoot some publicity shots for the Sun. One pic made it to the Sun's middle pages, with me and Ricky featuring.

Well done, Magpie Wheelies. Smile
