I'm not sure I understand the implication of that.

If it was say #37, would it be an issue?

Collingwood fans might have started a campaign to see him retain the No.35 but Jaidyn Stephenson is ready to hand it over — despite the jumper bearing special significance this week.

Since the #35 has been handed to our first pick;

2011: Alex Fasolo
Moved to the #1 and has sadly now moved to Carlton. He wore the 35 well and wore it as the substitute player in the 2011 Grand Final.

2012: Jamie Elliott
Moved to #19 and then to #5. Another who wore it well. Was an absolute star until hamstring injuries kept him down.

2013: Brodie Grundy
Moved to #4. One of the stars of the league.

2014: Matthew Scharenberg
Moved to #12. Has had an injury troubled career. Looked to have finally cemented his spot in the team until he hurt himself again this year.

2015: Jordan De Goey
Moved to #2. This boy was born to wear the Collingwood stripes.

2016: Brayden Sier
Moved to #36. Has taken some time, but was a solid contributor in 2018.

2017: Sam McLarty
Moved to #23. The obvious bust. Our first pick was at 30 after the previous years Adam Treloar trade. Didnt crack the AFL.

2018: Jaidyn Stephenson
Moved to #1. Won the rising star award and had one of the best debut seasons the club has ever seen. He idolised Johnathan Brown growing up, so it might have been a little strange to wear one of Browns great oppositions number.

After all that:
4 of these guys were a goal away from winning a flag in 2018. Who knows what could have happened if Fasolo, Elliott and Scharenberg didnt get injured during the season? Imagine that, if they all won a flag together. Seven guys who wore the #35 in their debut seasons. That would be something.

Only 2 of these players are no longer on the list. Both leaving the club this year. McLarty is the obvious bust.

Currently, numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 12 & 36 are now worn by players who had #35 in their debut season. Hopefully, IQ moves to #3 next year.

I'd say the first drafted player wearing #35 has been a success.
