What a week the club has had!

The joy of making finals, two All Australians and a Rising Star - all the things that tell you what success can look like, but not what makes a great club.

With the tragedy for Travis Varcoe front of mind - these are the times that make a great club. The response from the team , the coaches, the administration from the outside has been nothing short of inspiring.

Nick's has played its part in this - the members and fans are what a great club must have. On this forum the respectful and heartfelt support shown to Travis and his family has been touching. Likewise the genuine responses that are posted here when the Nick's family is hurting or struggling. I'm not sure is anyone within the club sees what is said here but I hope they do.

What makes a great club is how we rally around when needed; still strive for the ultimate success (have a good whinge when it doesn't happen) but keep this perspective with what really matters.

Side by Side actually means what it says.

Well said TP.

I'd go further and say that the fans are the club. The players, administrators, coaches, officials etc, are paid employees, who can and (often) do, change clubs in search of better career prospects.

It is ONLY the supporters who are constant, permanent, committed and passionate Collingwood people for life. It's our club, and we are the club. Sometimes, our club officials need to be reminded of this.

It's the fans and a culture of "near enough isn't good enough"

'Side By Side' makes us a great club.

Same goes for 'You'll Never Walk Alone' for Liverpool.

Both clubs born in poor working class suburbs in 1892.
