So apparently there was a rally in the CBD today. "March for men"

This was the detail provided on their Facebook page. (my bolding)

Quote:
From the school yard to the office, Australians have been repeatedly reminded how undesirable it is to be a man. After weeks of attacks from the media, from politicians and from interest groups - enough is definitely enough!

Join me to "March For Men" on the 25th of August 2018! The rally will be held in Melbourne CBD at 1pm.

March For Men is about showing the men in our lives that they matter and their issues matter.
It is also about encouraging solidarity between men and women -
It is very important that women and men can stand together in support of one another.

"March For Men" is an important stepping stone in showing that our country cares about its fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, grandfathers and that the unique problems of men will not go unnoticed.

Our wonderful speakers include:
- Chani Randazzo, a writer and speaker in the non-feminist community and a mother of three sons.

- Robert Tiller, a veteran relationship counselor whose life changed after he shared a Bettina Arndt article at his workplace, Relationships Australia WA.

- Robert Brockway, a writer, editor and contributor to A Voice for Men, as well as a seasoned veteran of Men's Rights Australia.

- Jarryd Chircop, a young musician with quite the story to tell about his experiences as an abuse victim.

This is a non-partisan event - it is not attached to any political side or movement. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!

Donations can be made here: https://www.gofundme.com/march-for-men
They will go towards some small organizing costs. The remaining will be donated to Dads in Distress, which is a charity that hosts support group meetings to assist dads who are going through a relationship break up or a separation.
Fathers going through separation make up 25% of all male suicide victims in Australia. We want to lend a hand to getting dads back on their feet so they can continue to be in their children's lives.

We are very excited to see people coming together for a great cause and to show love to the men in their lives!

See you all then!

Seems pretty benign? I only know it happened because of media reports about the counter protest including people being arrested.

Quote:
A counter-protest, called Stand up for equality: March against Mens Rights Activists, was also held in the same location, at the same time.

Why would you counter protest this?

Quote:
Via Facebook, the counter-protests organisers the National Union of Students Womens Department and the Campaign Against Racism and Fascism, encouraged people to attend to publicly maintain a counter-narrative.

Globally Mens Rights Activists (MRAs) have operated as a gateway drug for the all-right. Their campaigns seek to enforce rigid gender norms, sexist stereotypes and violence toward women, the Facebook event reads.

Right. Rolling Eyes

These self important tools see it as their mission to ensure the only narrative out there, is theirs. Can't let people have freedom of thought. Don't these dickheads see that these counter protests just give publicity to the things they're protesting against? FMD, they're easier to switch on than an electric kettle.

I found this info after googling Mens march and, while it's not my normal choice of reading material, this is a good synopsis of the stupid reaction if you dig through the rest of the over written article.

Quote:
the complete absence of any goals from Watsons rally should be understood not as a bug but a feature. She planned the event, after all, as a riposte to the feminist anger after Eurydice Dixons murder, understanding a mens march as a smart piece of trolling, calculated to infuriate the woke.

Quote:
The success or failure of the March for Men will thus be measured not by any policy outcome but by the airtime netted for Watson on Sky News

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/aug/24/march-for-men-is-a-smart-piece-of-trolling-calculated-to-infuriate-the-woke

These Antifa and Socialist Alternative Fwits are the ones putting out the welcome mat for the C grade right wing spruikers who want to get some cash and guaranteed publicity. All they have to do is arrange an event and let the imbecile far left organise the publicity for them. Rolling Eyes

All I know about the mens rally, I've linked to. If it apparently has some deeper cause, the opposing idiots as you described them, gave them the oxygen, which is my point.

Seems so. If you disagree with the left agenda, you're extreme right and when you call centre right opinions facist, you're called extreme left (rather than just stupid which is more acurate)

So when are you entering politics? After you make your first $mil or will you go Labor and do that on the run?

I feel like weve discussed this before, although these counter-mobilisations usually happen around anti-Muslim or anti-immigrant rallies. I get the purpose there, as its mostly about expressing solidarity with marginalised groups and showing that pushback exists. Generally speaking, I support such actions; what I find more unedifying is when Antifa people use these counter-demonstrations to do some street-fighter LARPing. I think that only helps to mobilise extremists further and, in the eyes of observers, makes the left seem just as bad as the forces theyre fighting.

At the end of the day, though, theres nothing wrong with a counter-protest. A protest is a powerful act, and a counter-protest demonstrates that the opposing view is held just as strongly. Its a totally legitimate (and sometimes very necessary) political act. One may feel annoyed by the near-obligatory opposition to any small-time right-wing protest, but ultimately its free speech in action. Its those who cross the line into physical violence who deserve to face legal consequences, and thats invariably what happens.

You must have been frightened fearfully by a centre-left moderate when you were a child.

Nope. Still drviing it without a 3rd gear in the 6 speed auto trans. (We're thinking of Salary Pockaging Skoda Octavia). Couldn't part with $4K when the car is only worth about $9K (I think).

That's my main point.

Counter protests may be a legitimate form of expression of free speech but, unless done well can be extremely counter productive and these Antifa and Socialist whatever mob do them very badly.

Use this one as an example. To the average person who doesn't follow this stuff, the original march wasn't a protest but a solidarity march for men, organised by a woman and had seemingly positive objectives.

To me met by a counter protest group that hurled insults like racist and facist at them firstly ensures that the march gets both publicity and public sympathy which it wouldn't have got if they stayed away.

Another example, the little blonde Canadian chick who came out to do a paid speaking engagement on private property. The only reason she got mainstream publicity was because of the threat of protestors, media coverage of firstly the Police wanting to charge her for protection, then the images of protesters blocking the hume highway while carrying on like idiots hurling insults.

These (supposedly educated) imbeciles need a complete overhaul in their tactics if they want to get any public sympathy from anyone who isn't firmly on board with their cause.

My suggestions would be:

1. Pick your target. Don't just counter protest everything, weigh up the pros and cons of the amount of publicity you give to what you're protesting against the positive result.

2. Quit the negative protesting. Throwing insults at people and picking fights with the other side and the Police is just not helping. If you want to protest against an anti Muslim or anti immigration rally for example, march along chanting positive statements about immigration and Muslims, try to make some of them witty, and avoid verbal and physical confrontation at all costs

These idealistic idiots want to control the discourse with insults and bullying, they haven't got the brains god gave a tree fern.
