Defense is a concern going into September, hope Howe in will create the ability for us to stop tall forwards taking marks consistently in our defensive 50

Well done pies! For all the Mayne bashers, humble pie for supper! He was massive tonight. Varcoe was monumental in the first half. JDG is a champion!! I can't believe some people on this board thought we wouldn't win again for the year 😎

Mayne was terrible. There are 12 better players than him in the seconds and half of them arent even on an AFL list. Its like people are so desperate to pretend that he isnt a complete waste of space that they are determined to find every backwards handball an act of genius. It is a tragedy that he played ahead of Daicos.

I watched it on the radio and tht was certainly not the impression created on the radio (both MMM and the ABC)

HD or SD?

Yes

What's your point? JDG missed marks too, or didn't you see those.

It's interesting, but just about every team in the 8 has been affected by injuries, most especially us,but Richmond seem to skate along without any injuries at all.How is this possible? Why are they so lucky?

^ Great summary Doc.
With so many defenders out, we need to change our gameplan., as you rightly call. Howe back will be a massive in, but yes, we need to suppress quick entries into our defensive 50. Will need to consider how to rotate Cox/Grundy in defence to compensate for the lack of height as well. Need also to work out how best to rotate players through the midfield to maximize our midfield pressure, as winning centre clearances will be a massively decisive issue for us.

Well done pies - cant help but feel that the structures bucks has in place are so solid that despite our injuries we turn up week after week.

Footnote: Murray - Im your number 1 critic- and after a poor turnover in the first I thought here we go- but Im eating my words and thought you played a solid game .

Taylor Adams - wonderful game esp your first half.

And Langdon- Ive watched the debate over you with interest but now firmly sit in your camp. Was a general down back and does the small things often unseen.

Agree with all.

As for someone comment in the gam3 day thread that Tommy dropping his head and allowing the easy goal, no way was he going to stop it, so why kill himselfover it, he worked so damn hard all match, stopped so many.

Exactly - you have articulated the challenge ahead of us very well MTTM. Therein lies the challenge, assuming we don't get any soldiers back.

30 scoring shots to 11 after quarter time tells the story - we could have won by a lot more. That was probably our worst game in front of goal for the season. We should have kicked 10 goals in the 3rd quarter.

Adams has become such an important player now. This is easily his best season for us, so reliable now.

I thought Grundy was down a bit in the first half, then BOOM!! What a third quarter he played.

If we had the luxury of playing De Goey as a permanent forward for a whole season, he would kick 60. Easily.

the back line did pretty well considering who is missing. We need to slow down the entries into our defensive 50 - when it comes in quick, we are going to get caught out.

Great game by Mayne again tonight. So happy he kicked a couple of goals. You could see how happy his team mates were for him.

Big game next week against Port, who might be almost as knackered as we are.
great post

Im one happy to eat humble pie re Mayne, he was great tonight,

To my stood tall as well. Gutsy comefrom behind win

I did. Enjoy the win mate, there won't be perfect games, there will be mistakes, dropped marks, missed goals, oob in he full, defenders beaten, forwards beaten, tackles on us leading to free kicks. It's how a team can endure all this and still win games. The team on the ground today did that and I am happy with that.
