I am sick to death of listening about poor Gaff.

Its out of character
He meant to hit the chest
It was dumb luck he caught him flush
He will live with this for the rest of his life
One mistake yudda yudda yudda

I think our commentators need to pull their heads in. Throwing punches and breaking jaws has no place in the game - he should think himself lucky that he only got 8 weeks.

And I'm sorry Eddie - I like your work but in this your a bloody hypocrite. A week ago you were calling for the head of a one punch thug in Frankston and now you go soft because its a star footballer. Stop this empathy with Gaff and get back on target - It was a cheap shot that may ruin the career of a promising player not to mention making the sport look like a thugs paradise.

end of rant.

Agreed.

Was a 10-12, possibly up to 15 week, ban.

Works both ways. I'm sick to death of people carrying on like he's killed someone. He's been punished, move on and get over it.

Our media outlets need to take a good hard look at themselves.

Barry Hall - renown for his thuggery = plumb media job
Wayne Carey - Lets stick his mug under Anthony Stevens nose every week
Gary Lyon - no reason to take him out of the public eye.

dead set - what sort of message are we sending

Don't care how many goals this lot have kicked we shouldn't be listening or looking at them.

If this was done on the street he'd be doing time.

Only if Brayshaw lodged a complaint with the Police. They can't charge someone with assault on video evidence unless the person lodges a complaint or is dead.

Maybe in W.A. if it happened in Victoria the judiciary would request him to please not do it again.

What makes you so morally upright and unblemished that we should be listening to you?

In response to your first post, I think it’s totally reasonable to empathise with Gaff, so long as it’s not at the expense of sympathising with Brayshaw. It’s about recognising him as a fellow human being who did the wrong thing. It’s precisely that sort of empathy that makes us less likely to hurt others; so, ironically, the morality you’re arguing for (i.e. not empathising with flawed fellow humans) is likely to make us less kind and more cruel and violent. Is that really what you want?

I have to correct you on that. All they need is evidence of a crime, which they have. It is irrelevant whether Brayshaw complains to the police or not.

It’s common for charges to be laid in domestic violence matters without a complaint being made.

Yup.

Brayshaw sold man is willing to, so I reckon the rest of us can too!

I’m not usually this empathetic to these things, but I really believe he didn’t mean it and he’s damn sorry.

This I agree with. And Leigh Matthews.
