With decisions coming up on Collingwood free agents; Goldsack, Fasolo and Blair, it's also interesting to see who else of interest is left.

There's been a few signings recently, bringing the talent pool down a bit but here goes:

1. Tom Lynch.
25 years old, 199 cm, Full forward.
All-Australian, B&F winner.
The obvious player we want. But it seems like the money is better at Richmond and Hawthorn. Grew up a Pie and has a Collingwood crazy family, but I don't think we can afford him, with clubs said to be offering massive deals. Contract talks on hold and a certainty to leave the Suns.

2. Jeremy McGovern.
26 years old, 195 cm, CHB (Utility).
2X All-Australian.
This guy should be our second target. Fremantle, the club his father played for, will offer a good deal. WCE will be desperate to keep him and tbh, I think he'll stay with them. We saw first hand, how he calved us up last week. Contract talks on hold.

------

3. Andrew Gaff.
26 years old, 182 cm, Midfield.
All-Australian, B&F winner.
Doesnt fill a desperate need on the list, but imagine he and Phillips on either wing. WCE wont be losing both he and McGovern, but will they be able to keep both? TBH, I think he's a realistic target if we cannot get the KPP we want. But clubs like Melbourne will also be having a sniff.

4. Luke Dahlhaus.
25 years old, 177cm, Midfield.
Premiership player.
Again, Luke doesn't fit a desperate need on the list, but he's an interesting option none the less. Started off as a goal kicking mid, but is playing more defensively in 2018. Imagine he, instead of Crocker in the side right now. Flying a bit under the radar as far as rumours go. Contract talks on hold.

--------

5. Tom Liberatore
26 years old, 182 cm, Midfield.
Premiership player, B&F winner.
Tom was in great form until injury struck. A bit of a wild card as far as behaviour goes, but the knee will also put a lot of clubs off. The obvious family ties to the club will probably keep him there, but the Dogs have been known to voice their frustrations with Tom in the past. I dont know how much interest we'd have, but I remember hearing interest from Essendon before his injury. I think he'll stay now.

6. Mitch Wallis
25 years old, 185 cm, Midfield.
Another Dogs farther-son thats been linked to an Essendon move. Missed out on the 2016 flag. Again, I dont think we'll show much interest, but he can win a hard ball. Had injury troubles, and been in and out of the team, but has found some ok form now. He's kicking goals too.

After that, there isnt much to look at. Will we land one of our targets? Will we look at a cheaper player like Dahlhaus?

I would take McGovern ahead of Lynch easily.

- Cheaper
- Dunn’s injury has escalated our need for a KPD.
- Lynch is virtually ineffective without a winning midfield
- McGovern comes into his own when we aren’t in control of the ball
- Our forward line is now functioning well. We are getting a good return on our scoring per entry. Lynch doesn’t add to the number of entries, rather he is only likely to score at the expense of one of our other forwards.
- When we play against Lynch, the best possible way to stop him is to have the best intercept defender in front of him.
- Historically, a single champion has yet to make the difference in winning a premiership. Franklin, Ablett, Dangerfield are all superstars but it’s a sport that is the sum of all parts, not a messiah.
- Premierships are built off the back of great defences, not a forward who demands the ball.

Surely that’s enough reason. Pity we won’t get him.

but with the rule changes discussed next year - if they have 3 players at each end of the ground that means key forwards who can lead and take a mark will be in demand. Key defenders who can stop them one on one will be also.

Trying to gaff* Gaff would be a real gaffe.

* gaff n. A stick with a hook or barbed spear, for landing large fish. v. [WITH OBJECT] Seize or impale with a gaff.

Given McGovern has now signed, I wouldn't touch any of the others with a 10 foot barge pole, never been sold on Gaff, no better than Phillips and twice the price

Yep, he (McGovern) was the only one left to pursue.

We have a great nucleus that just needs to draft some quality up and comers over the next 2 seasons.

Hopefully the club have learnt their lesson with Wells and Mayne.

I've switched my thinking on this a bit

- Gut feel is May wants to stay and lead the Suns
- Bucks confirmed on Footy Classified on Monday night that we are interested in Lynch and that he participated in a pitch to Lynch a little while back. "We can see a role for him in our team"
- I think Darcy can play key back easily enough and was encouraged by his performance last week. Can have Dunn as back up next season.

Herald Sun have picked up the story with colour from the conversation

If you are Lynch, if we are Lynch... and you are offered 1.2 mill to play for the Tigers / Hawks, who you have ridiculed / hated all your life, and 800 to play for the Black & White jumper that you have idolised since you were born, that your family idolises. You are in your prime, and could help, Collingwood, the Magpies, win a flag plus you yourself play for another 100 plus games ensuring your sons [and possibly daughers] could go to the Pies... Where would you sign?

Some things are just worth more than dollars and cents.

Ok I had my people run the numbers ......hypothetically ( to answer the question) I'd sign on with the pies, magpies , for a bucket of chips and free 2010 membership cap.

Someone hand the man a pen.
