But did anyone hear the chant ....or was it my imagination?

It wasn't your imagination. It was also chanted during game against Melbourne.

Yep, the chant started in Ponsford. We were on the flank and the chanting made its way to us. I’m not into jingoistic stuff at all (and certainly not for a foreign nation - USA) but seeing how it riled the Essendon fans around us, well we all just had to join in.
The more they hated it, the more we did it.

I was at Ponsford Stand and it was Loud

Nah
Keep it simple.
The Aussies have Oi Oi Oi
Chanted in a rather silly venacular.
And the the Yanks have USA USA USA!
Chanted in an aggressive fashion.
Remember when the Yanks got Osama Bin Laden?
The rabbits were running around chanting USA USA.
Almost in a victory parade.
It has that flavour about it.

And finally the main street media are picking the chant up and are reporting it.
Lock it in Eddie.
USA USA USA!!!
