Um, maybe? It’s one (fairly imprecise, at that) unproven allegation from two decades ago. If that makes Trudeau a sex pest, what’s that say about the guy in your avatar? Or do “male feminists” deserve a lower standard of proof in your book?

i’d want some standard of proof against Trudeau before I took any claim like this at face value. While such claims should be taken seriously, that does not mean that they have to believed.

I personally prefer the approach that everyone should be considered innocent until proven guilty and that just making allegations against a person and any resulting trial by media shouldn't change that, regardless of the gender of the persons involved.

Unfortunately, people choose to believe innuendo and allegations that suit or fit their personal biases and dismiss those that don't.

I agree completely that the ‘90s mainstream-liberal response to the allegations against Clinton were poor, and Steinem has been rightfully whacked by contemporary feminists for her shameless partisanship at the time and failure to acknowledge the seriousness of the allegations. But I doubt you’d find anyone on the left willing to defend Clinton today, and I expect – unless the allegations here turn out to be far-fetched or obviously politically motivated, which doesn’t seem to be the case – that most on Trudeau’s side of politics will be taking these allegations very seriously and will be reluctant to dismiss them out of hand. Obviously, otherwise, the fair-minded among us (whatever our political persuasion) will recognise that it’s an unproven allegation, one in which the details are slight, and that it is not (at least at this stage) suggestive of a pattern of predatory behaviour.

I don’t know what you mean by the “left”, given that many (perhaps most) leftists vigorously opposed Hillary Clinton’s candidacy, and many were willing to bring up her husband’s indiscretions during the campaign. If you’re talking about rusted-on Democrat voters, that’s a different matter.
