I do find certain commentators do try to talk up the game to keep the impartial observers interested. Deeerwayne is a classic example. A team could be 45 points down at 3/4 time and kick the first goal of the last quarter and he'll say something like "Oh boy, this is as good as it gets"

| Yes,he is annoying.I had to turn down the sound in the last quarter because I got sick of his barracking.Another one that annoys me is Brian Taylor,not because he's biased,but because he's so clueless as a commentator.He doesn't know half the players names,and he usually rabbits on about something totally irrelevant while the game is going on. |

A commentators job is to know his stats and facts.....therefore
Garry Lyon is a useless “commentator”

| Watching Norf vs dogs last night, I could not help noticing a particular commentator being ultra critical of Majak Daw when not warranted. I believe it was a subconscious thing on the commentators behalf, but I did not like it. |

Dwayne Russell's commentary in the Brisbane match earlier this year was worse than anything I've seen Hudson dish up over the years.

It's a little annoying. As a commentator though, you're looking at ways the rubbish team can beat the superior one. So, the special comments men will focus on that and the caller will get more excited when the rubbish team is doing the right thing. No real interest in detailing how the better team can win, they win by being better.
Maybe there's a bit more in our games at times, but it's a common dynamic. They were getting pretty excited about the Dogs upsetting the Roos too.

This, not only Mugwump that gets it. As identified he is a Cats supporter. He's just trying to be a bit theatrical as he does his job. A little annoying - Yes. Barracking for Carlton - No

Agree with your observations on BT. Unprofessional and ridiculous, under the guise of being 'entertaining'. No wonder the club have shut him out of our rooms from his after match slot.

I get that they need to dramatize everything to make a game more interesting and it's almost a requirement to barrack for the under-dog. However, it's simply not their role to barrack at all!!! It's their role to report in an objective fashion on what's happening in the game. No hysteria needed.
Strangely, I find that the commentator who is best at giving an unbiased, objective view of the game is Wayne Carey. Who would've thought? |
