https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowstone_National_Park

This place is just mind bogglingly beautiful, unbelievable surreal, and just an experience ill never forget. this is just the first day!

This guy just hung around the cabins all day, and i woke up the second morning to find him about 3 feet from the door, fast asleep!

when we arrived hubby fell asleep so i amused myself with the macro lens, these bugs were doing the deed on a pile of Bison poo!

traffic jam!

you have to keep 25 yards from deer, and 50 from Bison and this deer had 2 groups of people bailed up at opposite ends of a walkway! I swear she was laughing at us!

when you see steam pouring out of the ground its quite startling, but you get used to it pretty quick, the place is teeming with them! And pits of boiling water!!

and it has its own grand canyon! note the colours really are that saturated.

Bison everywhere!

and i guess thats why its called yellowstone!

the colours are like a painting

this is called the artists paint pots

and then there is the boiling mud volcanoes!

this is a close up of the one above, notice there is not much fencing, its amazing how the majority do the right thing

we arrived at about 3.30pm, and took a drive into the park around 7pm, walked up a hill and a guy yells out, "do you want my bear spray?" um why? there was 2 bears up there this morning!! got down that hill pretty quick! so the next day (when i took all these pics) driving past that same hill there is 3 rangers making sure no one gets too close to those 2 bears! A grizzly and her 3 year old cub! usually mother grizzlys chase their babies off at 2, but this mum hasnt shown any sign of doing so, and is apparently fiercely protective of him! i gotta tell you, this made my year! i took about 100 pics of them and then just stood there and watched! just beautiful!! i had my 400mm on and we would have been about 100 metres away.

the bigger blonde bear is the baby!

cheers,

^ Superb, TP. The mating flies in a pile of bison poo explains the reproduction of Carlton supporters. I had often wondered about that.

cheers guys, thanks for commenting, day 2 when i finish sorting them is a trip to a Grizzley and Wolf rescue centre, which was truly inspiring, those famous rainbow coloured pools, not the best pics as it was belting down but i wasnt missing them, and then Old faithful, a magnificent Geyser! cheers

and yes the National Parks are incredible, Yellowstone is the oldest, and they do it so well, easy access, clear markings, lots of boardwalks to protect plants and wildlife, and people too i guess! we paid $80 US for a yearly pass (per car, not person) and visited 6 different parks.

Nice pics TP. My cuz was over there last year, said it was amazing. Apparently Old faithful is not one of the most impressive geysers, there's several a heap bigger and more spectacular, it's just the most regular hence the name.

Yeah there is quite a few, as u say old faithful goes off like clockwork, they actually have a clock that tells you the next time due! Depending on the time of year it goes off every 45 to 90 min! It was freezing and pouring so it was nice to sit in the lodge with a hot choc until she was ready to blow! Lasted a good 10-15 min, just amazing. Did your cuz go anywhere else?
