Can't send everyone down back

We're currently in need of tall defenders to back up Langdon and Scharenberg. If Moore doesn't feel comfortable playing in the backline when he returns from injury I think he should consider his options. Happy to swap him for Peter Wright if he wants to go to GCS.

Looks clear that De Goey will stay if we can offer enough of a contract. Doesn't need to match the offers but will probably be more than what we'd originally planned.

Roos and Saints need to be a bit careful that their offers aren't reckless. Offering De Goey $1M is similar to what the Dogs did with Boyd. We can say that "won" them a flag but it's clearly a bad contract.

DeGoey is not a restricted or unrestricted free agent. End of story!

North or Saints have to offer what ever we want to charge for the pleasure of his company.

The same goes for Darcy to the Swans.

That's the big "if". Given that he's really only played half a dozen great games for us so far, you'd hope a contract offer of around $800,000 from us would do the trick. It may depend on how greedy his manager is I guess. Confused

Several outlets reporting he intends to re-sign with the Pies on a two year deal.

Jordan De Goey knocks back $1 million offers, tells Collingwood he’s staying

EXCLUSIVE: JORDAN De Goey has told Collingwood he will stay at the club.

The hard-nut midfielder is expected to sign a two-year extension, turning down huge million dollar offers from St Kilda and North Melbourne.

His manager Ben Niall will now thrash out the final terms as the Pies attempt to bridge the gap between those offers and what they can afford.

Niall told the Herald Sun that there was still a gap, adamant there is no deal in place but working in good faith to broker a deal.

COMMENT: SHOULD DE GOEY MAKE SACRIFICE?

TARGETS: DO THE PIES WANT LYNCH OR MAY?

FREE AGENCY: BLUES CALL FOR CHANGES

Importantly, De Goey has made the big call to remain at the club despite leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars per year on the table.

The Herald Sun understands his salary could be around $700,000 a year, but not the $1 million a year he could get over five seasons at North Melbourne.

It is a major coup for the Pies, who have this week lost Adam Treloar but are expected to inject De Goey into the midfield.

They are finally pushing strongly for finals and seem to have an established core of young stars.

Niall made clear no official agreement had been brokered.

“We haven’t done a deal yet. Jordy would like to do a deal, but there is a gap.

“We are being transparent with Collingwood and he is keen to stay.”

Collingwood chiefs are extremely confident they will lock him away until 2020, having recently re-signed Jaidyn Stephenson and Matthew Scharenberg.

The club has put enormous work into his personal development after a drink-drive charge and his deception over breaking his hand in a pub fight.

Thanks MB. Hopefully now all of this will be put to bed and we can get on with the job.

Next Mission.

For me to finally get named in Nicks 22 otherwise I might take Norths offer of a pint of flat beer and a cold pie.

Leggie, is the flat beer and cold pie part of a 2 or 5 yr deal? Razz

Taking a two year deal at Collingwood is the smart decision because that takes him closer to restricted free agency status. Josh Kelly has done the same thing.
North wanted to lock them both in for long term deals, taking them past their restricted free agency windows.
In reality, IF DeGoey continues to improve over the next couple years, his next contract will exceed Norths five million offer over five years anyway.

Agree Pies2016. Not to mention endorsement opportunities will no doubt be more lucrative with a club the size of ours. That would surely go a fair way to making up any initial shortfall, particularly if he continues on his projected pathway.

The more I hear De Goey giving the media soundbites about how he loves the Pies and wants to stay the more I expect him to leave.

We've had the entire bye period to hear that the deal has been done but things still stand as they've been all year.

The clock is no longer ticking - the alarm is now ringing, loudly. And we take this unresolved and overdue issue with us towards the finals. Not good for the Pies, Jordy. If its true that you love the Pies make the call one way or the other, now!

You cannot blame the managers. They are just agents of the players.

Alarm? Relax. He’s staying. Goodness gracious me...
