One of my kids made this comparison and I gotta say it’s got some merit.

Before you dismiss this question think about this.

He’s racked up 30+ possessions six times this year
He’s hitting the scoreboard
He doesn’t look pretty or fast
He was taken as a bargain basement draft pick

Only difference I see at present is that Tom has seen the light much earlier than Dane did about what it takes to make it in the AFL.

Long way to go yes, to reach the lofty heights of Swanny but I like what I see.

Discuss.

Pick 58 is now our lucky number!

Were they both pick 58? That’s awesome if so.

Yeah sort of but neither are as quick as Corey Gault.

Poles apart.
One is an endurance athlete, the other a power runner/sprinter and did his work in bursts.
One was the strongest at the club, the other doesn't look like he knows what a bench press is.
One could kick over 50, the other has no kicking depth.
One is left, the other right.

Flipi is doing well, but not a good comparison. I would have gone for JDG to be more like Swanny.

I think it's easy to forget that Phillips has played more matches (35) in his first 2.5 years than Swan played in his first 4 years (30). Swan struggled to maintain his spot due to form, and in those days he wasn't exactly the strong contested ball winner that he eventually became. Phillips is one of the first picked each week I suspect, and has already put in multiple best on ground performances this year.

Comparatively, Phillips is miles ahead of where Swan was at the same stage of his career. Will be hoping he continues to improve.

Different body shape —different style of play BUT here’s a comparison to ponder

Tom Phillips. 187 cm———-79 kg. #21

John Greening. 185cm———-83 kg. #22

I saw John and he was a running machine and would get a procession in back half then when ball hit the forward line he would pop up and goal

To compare the two is a big call but Phillips does play simalar

As well as JG. That’s also a big call

Baz, I was thinking there are more similarities between JG and WHE.
