Some contrasting assessments of the game on here. Confused

<snip. Knock. It. Off! - the mods>

Losing our centre half forward in the first half and then our only multiple goal scorer not long after, we were always going to struggle.

A pretty gutsy, albeit sloppy at times, effort. Kicked straighter when we had the ball in our forward line in the 2nd half and we actually could have pinched it.

Let's hope we get some good news on the injury front and come out and pump the aints.

I've said it a 100 times, why do we insist on rushing players back from hamstring injuries? If you think it's ok, it needs another 2 weeks!
Hammys take longer that what these so called fitness experts think, it really is mind boggling.

GO PIES!

Well, we had Wells in the forward line. Should have kicked 2.1, not 0.3(?). Crying or Very sad

Today's game, the way that we played (I don't carry on about injuries I watch the game with who is out there), was the biggest reminder of the last 3 years since round one. Not sure where we go from here and we face a danger game next week.

Are we the same person this week? I’ve agreed with everything you’ve said.
You can be captain next week.

Blair will be back to help you out!

Thank you.You know the old saying about great minds thinking alike? Smile
But it does beg the question,if we can see these problems when why can't the coaching hierachy see them too?

The real concern is that the Cats pulled apart our game style and they did it by pressuring right up to the ball carrier as opposed to holding their areas.
That’s why there were so many smothers and turnovers.

Injuries are part of footy but looking at that game, Pendlebury was the last player we wanted to miss. The game was crying out for polish and composure and he would have at least made the game closer.

The Cats defence was brilliant. They didn’t allow any deep entries and constantly forced us wide going forward.

Thought Appleby bounced back well too. If he keeps working hard, the kid has a future.

Yep picked our game plan apart.
No plan B

Appleby can hold his head up. We need to unearth some more talent. I no longer think that what we have is enough. There were a lot of almosts tonight. It might do us good to have Pendles out for a couple of matches to put some pressure on the rest to stand up. Our practical leadership is shallow.

Boy it would have been good to see our own Esava Ratugolea -he is going to be a gun.

Today was a huge step backwards. Our forward line was completely dysfunctional and offered SFA. Our skills were were nothing short of a disgrace often resulting in turnover after turnover. There's no excuse for not hitting targets when you're under no pressure, and you're not going to win games of football by trying to handball yourself to victory. All of what we achieved the past few weeks was undone by scrappy ineffective football.

The cats were no great shakes either, if I was a cat fan id be pretty disgusted with that effort by them, only had Hawkins out, compared to our injury ravaged list, not to mention being two guys down in rotations in the second half. plus they had two days extra rest. they were nothing to rave about.

You need to educate yourself with the Geelong list.

They had just as many out prior to the first bounce.

Scott and Geelong clearly came with a plan to stifle our forward transition and it worked beautifully for them in the first half and set up the win.

Sorry but they had us before the half time break - the rest was dressing. I support the boys and wish them the best - I hope the Pies bring the best out of them and believe they can do it. But we were beaten top to bottom today - there was something very out that was more than the score board showed.
It was an ambush

Yes well I’ve been canned for it before but again, Wells doesn’t give enough to be worth the spot in the 22, he’s toast. He was classy. So were Buckley and MCKenna! Mayne and Wells were mistakes imo. Neither were ever going to do what Jolly and Ball did for us. Just too late in their careers

This is footy. People study what you are doing and try to counter it. I thought we were shot when Geelong were in front at quarter time as usually we belt them and keep them belted. Good that we were still in the game, but not good enough. Let's see what happens next week.

Can somebody explain that Grundy mark / holding the ball decision? The coverage didn't replay it.

It's quite simple really. Anything in a black vertical stripe find any reason at all to award the free kick against.
Anything in hoops find any reason at all to award the free kick for.
Keep repeating the above over and over again and you will have no trouble at all interpreting the umpiring decisions for the rest of the season.

We need to win the next 4 games if we are to demonstrate serious improvement this season.

Leaving Moore and Elliott aside, we still have quite a bit of depth, with the following players available, or nearly so:

Maynard
Pendles
Langdon
McLarty
Sier
Fasolo
Daics

Another thing that nobody has mentioned before. It was 9 goals to 5 in the end. What a pathetic spectacle. No wonder the A.F.L is in trouble. But will they ever have the guts to do anything about it?
