Inky Langdon adds nothing to our rebound game. He averaged less than 15m a disposal (after deduction for kick ins). Mayanrd hasn't been playing a lot back this season so he's impact on that is marginal at best.
Our rebound has been led by Murray Scharenberg Crisp Phillips Sidey Treloar Pendles Howe and Dunn. Some with running some with great kicks on the switch some with some gushed giving Howe Scharenberg & Dunn the chance to intercept.

Disagree with this summation. Langdon is a real gem. He anticipates the play brilliantly and as a result goes to the contest exactly when he is needed. Langdon's marks and spoils have been pivotal in our defensive structures.

Don't worry about what Qld says on the subject of Tommy - he knows a fair bit about football, so he can't possibly believe that Tommy isn't a gun. I'm sure it's just clickbait to see if he can wind me up.

I don't need to get wound up, of course - the backline's dramatic full from grace since Tommy was injured (goals against before injury - 11,9 and 7; goals against after 16 and 18, with the 18 coming from a team that hasn't had a decent forward line since 2004) is comment enough on this particular topic.

Agree with qldpie , Langdon is lazy unaccountable with his direct oppoent , his kicking is a disgrace n his tackles r generally weak, not a fzn at this stage he should work on his weaknesses in the vfl , Apples has past him all ready in 3 games at least his gives a bloody good contest

I wonder whether Blair, Brown and Daicos are ALL too small for the modern game, especially as neither of them are blessed with real speed. At a pinch, I guess there maybe room for one dwarf in our side, but certainly not two.

Thomas: 176cm
Elliott: 177cm
Daicos: 178cm
Brown: 178cm
Adams: 180cm
Sidebottom: 180cm
Fasolo: 181cm

Not sure why you'd say that. What about Adams, Fas, Thomas, Elliott? Height is not a requirement nor is speed. Running power is though.

The selections look spot on to me. Very sensible. We played one defensive medium too many last week, with Wells available that has been addressed with the poorer performing medium being dropped.

Brown has played better than both Blair and Adams this year, so has to play ahead of Blair when available. An upgrade in the same position. Adams hopefully improves on his awful return game.

If you think size doesn't matter inky, then you and i will have to disagree. You can't have too many midgets in your midfield imo. I'm happy to see Brown in the side, but I wouldn't want him and Blair in the side together. There's obviously a role for a specialist small forward like Elliott, when he is ready to resume.

Even if we think size matters, I'm asking why the question applies to Brown and Blair but not to Adams, Thomas or Sidebottom? Adams and Sidey are only 2cm taller than Brown, hardly a significant difference. Thomas is shorter than Brown.

The question on Blair makes sense because he's only 172cm, but Brown at 178cm can certainly fit into our team. If he doesn't (can't see this happening, he's shown me this year that he is clearly an AFL player) it won't be because of height.

There's no doubt you need a mixture of different sized players, but you can fit quite a few players between 176cm and 180cm. For most those few centimetres don't make much difference. I don't see a material difference between Adams (+2cm) and Brown based on height nor between Daicos and Sidebottom (+2cm).

Adams, Sidey and maybe even Thomas are already established quality players, but I don't want to add more dwarfs to our side.

I think that's too strict a restriction, one that's not supported by successful mixes at other clubs, but I do see where you're coming from now. Within your restriction there is still some room. Near best 22 players around 180cm or under (these are players that I think would be considered against each other without consideration of height):

Varcoe (180)
Thomas (176)
Elliott (178)
Adams (181)
Greenwood (181)
Fasolo (181)
Treloar (182)
Wells (181)

I see Brown (178) going past Thomas and Greenwood at the least. Daicos (178) can take the spot of Wells, Fasolo, Varcoe types, though he hasn't yet convinced as much as Brown.

To me though, the number of similar sized players in our current best 22 shows we can fit Brown, Daicos, Adams in, with some of the others ageing or being surpassed. It will depend if they're good enough, not tall enough.

Correction on Sidebottom, he's listed by the club at 184cm. Some other sites had him at 180. This does go to my point though, I don't think he'd be a significantly different player at 180cm. Sometimes this different in height can be crucial, but for certain types it doesn't mean that much.

^^^

The one thing I would hope that we all agree on, is that you can always find a spot for a good footballer ( even if you can’t train for height )

I agree. However, I'd also add that a short player who lacks pace has to have superb skills.

If de Goey re-signs, Sier continues to develop, Maynard is given opportunity and Stephenson fills out then our bigger bodied midfield options are well covered for.

Glenn Archer was 182 cm and he played on small and tall alike. He would have handled Coxy as well.

Nah, I disagree, the difference is much more than that.

Archer retired about 11 years ago. The current crop of draftees were only about 7 years old then. I expect they have grown more than 5cm since then.

Probably worth noting that it's Scott Selwood. Rather than let some on here get too excited...
