Can you guess who the first player was?

Russell 1990?

Well, the real difference is that Russell was our engine room in 1990. That was one of the great all-season performances by a Collingwood player. Stevo certainly looks the goods and offered a real degree of excitement this year but he didn’t take over the midfield as our star player in the way Scotty did from day 1.

^ Not to diminish his achievement, Scotty did have a couple of years senior experience in the SANFL before coming over and was a year or so older.

Yes, they were reasoned recruits --- by "they", I mean Russell and Francis (who missed out on this record for obvious reasons).

Was a decent busted checkbone he copped in that 1990 pre-season night game against Carlton. DeRui was the sniping dog.

Scotty was born 7th May 1970, two days before me. {just add that to your list of utterly useless trivia}...

Just as well you weren't mixed up at birth... or we would not have won the '90 Premiership.

Ya never know; I might have knocked out half the Essendopers at 1/4-time with my surly temper...

Yep, if you and Scotty had been swapped at birth, Starcevich would have won the Norm Smith Medal.

Starce should have won the medal anyway - his was the most dominant 40 minutes of footy played by a Collingwood player in a Grand Final in my lifetime. His ruck contest just after he first came on the ground led to Daicos' opening goal and by the time he "left the ground" and McGuane slotted the ensuing free early in the third, the game was over.
