Damo, I actually find it idiotic and irresponsible that the official website of the AFL even floats these rumours.
Firstly, it's way too early in the season to facilitate such rumour mongering. That should only be entertained once the H&A and/or finals series have concluded.
Secondly, what if a player takes exception to a scenario such as this, and claims it is causing mental health or anxiety issues?

Trade rumours are best left to forums such as this, and the AFL website needs to stick to facts, not fanning the flame for such fantasies.

Agree. It's Just Round 5 so that kind of talk at the Moment is pretty my BS and Guessing.

Wait for Around Round 18 before you can start thinking about these Rumors at the Earlist

It happens. I’m sure DeGoey isn’t the only pie talking to other clubs.

I disagree. The article didn’t say they were talking. And I think he has had other things going on in the last month to worry about. I’d suggest his management would be wanting him to focus on having a good year and building some currency as a player and citizen before they started worrying about next year.

Think this is a rare case where “the club” shall assess Jordan’s behaviour and commitment over the season before offering him a contract extension.

Managers can negotiate with other clubs on their clients behalf all they like during the season, regardless of their contractual status, with the strictest confidentiality.

My point being the AFL website shouldn't be sensationalising rumours.

It achieves nothing other than creating anxiety for all involved.

Unless a club elects to comment on such contractual matters on their own website, which the AFL site can link to, then they really need to remain impartial. Failing that they risk losing credibility, and end up looking like the Hun's online gossip rag.

The most detail the AFL website really needs to table is a list of uncontracted players, and/or [restricted] free agents at each club, and leave it at that.

Watch the external pressure on GCS, Dew, and Lynch, if their form strikes a road block, same as in seasons past.

De Goey should be offended that it is the despicable Aints that are after him.

Historically they've been viewed as the party club so he might feel more at home. Wink

This is the standard ploy from Player Managers who are seeking a nice pay increase for their client. Leak to the media that clubs are after your client, after all the media will never let the truth get in the way of a good story and if it involves Collingwood, even better. As we don't play till next week it keeps us in the news for hits and sales. In saying that I really would be surprised if he wants to go and if he does want to go, it will cost whoever big time.

Interesting scenario, and I'm not taking a side, but say he did want to go to the Saints - would their top pick in a (so-called) super draft be reasonable? Consider they are likely bottom 3...

Putting aside Degoey’s previous indiscretions ( which isn’t easy ) the club can’t really afford to lose another former first round pick to another club.

The club started its “ regeneration “ off the back of four first round picks in two consecutive years. To lose Degoey on top of Freeman and Sharenbergs two years out of footy, would set us back a couple more years.

If he goes to the Saints ( unlikely for mine ) I doubt if we would get their first round pick, particularly if they continue to slide. The parent club always loses a bit of currency when the player is out of contract. It’s certainly a great draft to have two first rounders but that means two / three more years of development in those kids before we are back to where Degoey is now.
Having said all that, IF the club reckons he is an un repairable rat bag, then trading him out and cutting our losses becomes a genuine option.

If I were degoey I'd be telling them I'm going; staying; going; naahh staying

what a great opportunity to make all the speculators out there look like fools.

AFL has demeaned themselves by having such a tabloid-style item on their official website.
Jordan at Piesland forever!
