Just come out and say he is a gun, is required and be done with it.
Not this stupid, "the future is still up in tha air" crap he dished out today. |
Also crap! He is one week from stuffing up again off-field until he proves to his teammates and coach that hes a changed man. No need to commit to him yet after three games post the last stuff up. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

We should have signed him to a five year deal the day after he was charged (when his market value was lowest). The kid is one of the best players in the league. The longer you wait the more zeroes you will add to his contract.
He has reached the Alan Didak/Dane Swan status where it doesn't matter how many times he stuffs up, his ability means he will always be forgiven.
We have been dumber than he has on the De Goey matter (all around). _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

So you would trade a player whose age is perfect for the list we have RIGHT NOW (and who is turning out to be a huge success as a number 5 draft pick in the sense that he is on track to be a top 10 talent) for a high draft pick where the odds of successfully getting a good player are a probability and not a fact (and the chances of getting one of the AFL's best players is an even lower probability). We might get a Bont, but we might also get a McCartin, Freeman, etc....
Sounds like genius to me....... _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Just for fun, lets look at St Kildas list.
Who do they have that we need/want?
Steele? Acres? Gresham? Dunstan? Anyone else? All shorter goal kicking types. Are any of them better or in the same class as De Goey?
Carlisle is the one that fills the biggest need. At 26, would be perfect. Saints wont let him go, but Collingwood should demand he be a part of any deal. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Hutchison: "They've been very good to each other..."
Lloyd: "I wouldn't say they've been good to each other."
Hutchison: "Well, Collingwood have been good to him."
'All': "Yeah, yeah..."
Wilson: "He still owes them a bit more."
Judd: "I think they'll keep him..."
Lloyd: "...He owes them another contract. If he left now ... I'd be disappointed in him. And I wouldn't touch JDG unless I was a top four or five club with a strong culture..."

I'm a long time supporter of Bucks, but I agree with jatsad on this.
FFS, don't try playing mind games. The kid played a great game. His coach should publicly acknowledge that when asked about his game. Then he should say that we see a terrific future for him at Collingwood, but that will all play out in due course. It aint hard. |

He surely knows how to motivate someone doesn't he? Not. If JDG leaves it will come back to bite us hard. He is shaping up to be a gun, a gun with grunt. We need him. _________________ Pies Forever |

Some really good points there. Really good.
Sign him up when his market value is the lowest.
Can't argue with that. |

I didn't hear Buckley's comments about De Goey until late last night. What I heard concerns me as it isn't what I would expect a coach to express in the media about one of his players, especially after the game he played on Sunday. I would have thought that Buckley would be trying to develop a relationship with De Goey and doing everything he possibly can to keep him at the club, not trying to drive him away. Why didn't Buckley just say "Jordy is a great talent, he is popular with the boys, and we all want to see him have a long and great career at the club".
The club is doing everything it can to rebuild but that won't happen if the coach is working counter to that with respect to one of the players the team will be built around.
I don't blame Buckley for what he said though, as he knows no better. He is bound to say those sorts of things when he is given free reign with a microphone. His life experience is extremely limited. He has lived the sheltered football life and doesn't talk or think like a person with wider experiences. He has obvious limitations with his emotional IQ and relationships with players, which is the area that he has needed assistance with, both as a leader as a player and as a coach. Of course a coach and player do not need to get on well, I just hope there are others at the club who are working to reassure De Goey that the club does want him. |
