Having played 12 games and with the bye this weekend, it's a useful time to consider our weaknesses and how we might address them, both in the short term (this year) and going forward.

In my mind, assuming we avoid injuries to key players, and our team maintains good form, our only real weakness imo is our lack of height in defence. As good as our back 6 have been all season, they look vulnerable against tall forwards. If Moore can return from injury and remain injury free I see him as our best option as our tall key defender. I still reckon he could become the best mobile KPP in the AFL, if he can stay on the park and develop form and confidence.

A few weeks ago I'd have decried our lack of a crumbing forward, but Stephenson is doing that job (and more) better than I could have imagined.

All in all, we are in an incredibly healthy situation and one most of us, I'm sure, could only have dreamed of midway through last year. Bucks should be congratulated for standing firm and sticking with his vision, when many around him were jumping ship. Go Pies!

No genuine forward front and centre crumber, which is why we need Varcoe in the team.

Another key back would help.

Moore, Reid, Elliott, Varcoe will help.

A second ruckman for a start. If Grundy goes down for any period, its all over.
Cox can pinch hit but the domino effect impacts us elsewhere all over the ground.
I dont even want to think about it.

We have a developing ruckman in the VFL, Lynch I think, and Moore, McClarty and Cox can also go there. Cox would be first ruck in about 6 teams.

I'd like a spare young ruck but our biggest area for improvement is in young KPP depth. I'd like a genuine 197cm KPP, as well as Will Kelly on our list.

Fast transition out of defence into attack will find any team out. Alternatively slowing the game down with possession football as Geelong and Hawthorn did against us is something we don't like. We need to play the game on our terms rather than the opposition's terms. I actually like it when media commentators say opposition teams lost because they had an off day against us. If Melbourne and Adelaide had off days against us, it means they didn't like playing us which means the game was played on our terms. On the other hand Hawthorn had no problems playing us meaning the game was played on their terms. Clarkson is a difficult coach to coach against because he finds way to win whatever team he has.
Lack of height in defence is a problem, but hasn't caused us to lose any games yet. Brisbane boasted they have the talls in their forward line to expose any team defence including ours. So how many games have they won for the year? One from memory. Good talls expose any defence. Just being tall doesn't necessarily expose you.

Our inability to be clinical more often than not when we have a plus one or plus two entering F50. Too often we piss fart around with it and muff up easy shots at goal. Anzac Day and yesterday cases in point. But well get better with more confidence and continuity with the players we out on the park.

Have to agree here. We need a mobile big CHB. I don't think Reid has that quality anymore. Darcy may be a candidate but his durability is questionable.

On that, it always frustrated me that Travis Cloke was never thrown into that position. Cloke was huge, a great contested mark, had elite endurance, and despite his goal-kicking woes he could put it lace out to anyone in field kicking. Huge mistake not trying that, in my opinion. Afterall, it worked for Tarrant.

But he's not a free agent and we don't have the capacity to trade draft picks as Melbourne did for Lever.

I'm a sucker for chocolate eclairs and an apple and rhubarb crumble with home made custard and real vanilla bean.

Yep we need one quality tall in the back, we've seen that be a problem against Brisbane, Geelong and now Melbourne. Probably not a problem against Richmond but will be against the Eagles. If Cox loses form or gets injured our structure will also be stuffed.

Other weakness is the shortcomings in our bottom handful of players. For example Daicos/Mihocek - inexperience/disappearing for large patches; Murray/Appleby - kicking; Greenwood/Mayne/Reid - speed or agility, etc. They say finals are won by the team whose bottom 6 are stronger than the other team's. If that's right then we could be in trouble.
