I don't know if this has been observed, but I was super impressed with our goal kicking efforts on the weekend. We had numerous set shots on goal that were 40 meters out on an angle and they never looked like missing.

Reid, Thomas, Sidey, WHE, Aish. All of them were money.

I wonder if we have generally improved or if this was just an aberration but the signs were super encouraging.

By the way, to those who think Faz is ready to make his seniors debut, take a look at his approach to goal kicking in this game. Rushed his shots at times, missed easy set shots at other times and generally his approach to goal kicking was inadequate. I kind of think a sign that you are ready to play seniors is being dialed in on this aspect of the game.

In an interview after the game, Goldy stated that he was helping out coaches in the forward line and was happy to credit for the improvement in the goal kicking accuracy Wink

Massive alright!

After 3 games we've kicked 37.24

After 3 games last year 34.42

Now that it's been mentioned, we'll probably kick 9.16 in Adelaide.

You need to kick 15 goals on average (General Statement but Accurate) to win games.
Round 1 - 9 Goals (Loss)
Round 2 - 12 Goals (Loss)
Round 3 - 16 Goals (Win)

Can we kick 15 or more Goals this week against better opposition? If we do we go a long way to winning. A weeks a long time in football.

Small sample size and they say the hands of a clock are right at least twice a day! Fingers crossed this continues

I think confidence plays a big role in goal kicking; it becomes contagious and affects everyone when the team is up and about but when times are tough and the pressure is on, then it can take a hit.

An article on AFL website indicated Thomas had a new routine for set shot kicking where he added a step to his run up. He credits this with the improvement.

I'd infer from this that set shot kicking is a focus area for improvement, and that's just 1 step in the right direction.

We are also right near the top in forward pressure for the league this season. Our much maligned forward line is doing a few things right. Gotta start somewhere. Credit where it’s due.

Ummm, saying the stats are distorted is distorting the facts.

I think the better accuracy is a combination of better kicking but also more goals from the goalsquare.
Our forward line pressure acts are #2 in the afl this year instead of about 16th last year. This means the ball is getting into our hands in different areas resulting in different avenues to goal

I find this subject interesting in as much as Sav Rocco is elsewhere teaching goal kicking

A while back Holden Centre had Barry “Bubba” Price instructing young Brown Brothers and Josh Daicos

If a great goal kicker can teach senior AFL players goal kicking why could not a great kick teach (or improve) senior AFL players field kicking

If Daicos II’s field-kicking is anything to go by, Pricey has done a fabulous job. The sooner Daicos is in the firsts consistently, the happier we’ll all be, I expect.

We have Buckley, Harvey, Rivers, Hocking, Boyd, Longmuir, Sanderson and Gotch. If that lot can't pass on correct kicking techniques to the senior players we have the wrong coaching group.
