^ Great post, Rude. Credit too to Ed, who stood firm when it needed plenty of courage. From such character great things are born.

Credit also to those, like Haff above, who are now man or woman enough to say “I should have stood firm”. None of us are immune from mistakes. Some of us are immune from admitting them.

Others, like the green duck, just melt away the minute the sun shines.

I wanted Buckley gone, even after the start of the season, but I am thrilled with how we are going. It's been a full 180. Not sure exactly what drove it....maybe it's Richmond's evolving the game by proving you can win with one KP forward and goal kicking mids playing in the F50.

It's been great to watch.

I am worried that the wheels will come off due to injuries and some of the younger players (Stevo, Cox etc) struggling with the long season.

Hopefully we can keep going, but I expect us to finish somewhere between 6-8.

On the positive side we are finally winning most of the games we should and have beaten all the bottom 8 sides, now if he has a game plan to beat teams in the top 10 in the league, now is the time to find out, then he may get plaudits. As it stands we are 1/4 against teams in the top 10 of the league, with the next few weeks being massive tests.

Realistically if we are as good as some say, Richmond is the toughest, Sydney is very winnable given they have dropped a lot at home and we should probably win all the rest. If you can't beat Port, Kangaroos and West Coast at the MCG then finals will be over quickly.

In his entire tenure rarely if at all he mentioned his predecessor but in his presser yesterday quoted MM

“Don’t count your match,s —-look at the match,s that count”. Mick M

Sunday game was a “match that counted” as we a really learning what it takes to win

Some one said on coaching you don’t start to impact for about 7 seasons
Matthews 86 to 90 (us) Brisbane about 4yrs
MM 2000 to 2010

Mick was experienced and Barney experienced when went to Brisbane

What I like about Bucks this yr he makes moves according to the way we are
going

He has arrived as a coach and we are happy

With you Rude. Feels good having stuck by him through thick and thin.

Now, sit back and enjoy a sustained period of Magpie domination. Bucks will be at the helm for a very, very, very long time Cool

Do you think the coaching style is contributing to our free kick differential this season - i.e. he's coaching us to play "clean" and not give away too many silly free kicks? Or is that drawing a long bow?

In particular, one Nick 'the Messiah' Maxwell coming back to the club in his Leadership capacity.
His retirement post Round 17 2014 was the exact point the Pies began their spiral out of the 8, missing the finals for the 1st time in eight years and every year since... Welcome back the Messiah 2018, nek minnit we're firmly back in the hunt!

I couldn't think of a single team that would be where we are now with the injuries we have. And not "just" injuries. Long term, medium term to key players.

Cant help but think we wouldn't be competing if not for the injuries we have had the last 2-3 years.

We have talent, we have depth but now we have depth with players that have played games.

Bucks is fast becoming the best coach in the AFL, and once he has delivered some trophies to our Premiership display cabinet, he will be recognised as one of the greatest ever.

Seriously folks, I understand why many fans gave up on him and wanted him gone last year, but I simply put that down to pure frustration.

I implore my fellow Nicksters who gave up on Bucks, to admit to your error, and to get on board the Mighty Magpie train being driven to Premiership glory by our great leader, Nathan Buckley.

It's time for everyone to declare they stand Side By Side with Bucks and our team. Floreat Pica.

He is a long way short of best coach in the AFL. I cannot stand Clarkson but he surely has that mantle. There are plenty of other coaches well ahead of Bucks, eg Hardwick, the Geelong Scott, Worsfold Longmire, Simpson, Lyon and the Footscray bloke, so Bucks is middle of the table, at best.

It's not so much playing clean, as our contested game style.

We have inside guys who go hard at the ball inside. You do that, you draw free kicks in errant tackles.

We have outside players camped outside the contest that put on pressure if the opposition win the ball. That pressure leads to errors and free kicks.

The "clean" part probably comes with our ball usage when in possession. We're a lot cleaner with the ball than in previous seasons, so we're more likely to give off to a player in a position to cleanly dispose of it, whereas in the past we'd more often give off to a bloke who got pinned.

Just my thoughts.

Mods - very disappointed that my stand alone thread congratulating Bucks has been merged into a generic thread about his coaching.

Surely Bucks deserves a stand alone congratulatory thread after all the shit and personal abuse heaped on him by many Nicksters in recent years? That you don't recognise this is a real shame.
