From the article above:

"The news comes after ... Mason Cox was ruled out for the rest of the season with a left eye injury that will receive surgery later this week.

His manager Adam Ramanauskas told RSN927 radio that testing had revealed an issue with Cox's "good" right eye, which will undergo laser surgery."

Both eyes... Shocked

Now that the VFL/AFL teams have been names:

Quote:
Nathan Murphy - Back (TEST) PASSED Will play Vs Casey!

Daniel Wells - Knee (TEST) Unavailable. Was listed as 3 more weeks, but was tested for the VFL this week. Might be a better chance next week. Encouraging.

Darcy Moore - Hamstring (2-3 Weeks)

James Aish - Shoulder (2-3 weeks)

Jordan De Goey - Hamstring (TBC) Should be tested for the trip to Adelaide.

Isaac Quaynor - Foot (TBC) Still in moon boot. But aiming to play again this year.

Ben Reid - Calf and Hamstring (TBC) Likely season.

Brayden Sier - Calf (TBC)

Will Kelly - Hamstring (TBC) Hearing that the club might keep him wrapped up for the rest of 2019.

Mason Cox - Eye (Season)

Dayne Beams - Hip/Shoulder (Season)

Lynden Dunn - Knee (Season)

Tom Langdon - Knee (Season)

Good luck to Murphy who will play in the VFL this week. He was very close to returning and hit a set back which cost him weeks.

How exciting to think that Wells and JDG could play next week!

And Moore, Aish and Sier the week after!

Lets bury Melbourne and hope a few results go our way. Things will finally turn our way. They have to!

Likely to go down to the wire unless melb folds in last half.

Liverpool's Allison Becker, the best goal keeper in the world, did a hammy last night, after simply kicking the ball. Sometimes shit happens. Confused

Josh Daicos leaves the game at 3QT. Not sure what he's done yet, but how many weeks in a row have we lost a player before 3QT? And how many for the year?

Daicos had concussion
Reid is a good chance to return before the end of the year
Moore is training really well
Wells is unlikely to make it back to the ones but will play VFL
JDG is a chance to return against Adelaide

Gone for the season - Dunn Langdon Beams

MEDICAL ROOM:

Collingwood: Josh Daicos twice left the field in the third quarter and was ruled out after failing a concussion test. Scott Pendlebury (ankle) went to the bench in the fourth term.

Anyone see Pendles’ incident? I thought Maynard was hobbling and Sidey looked a bit sore.

So why did he leave the field the first time? They can't have let him back on if that one was concussion.

https://www.deakin.edu.au/about-deakin/media-releases/articles/new-formula-predicts-afl-ladder-position-based-on-player-injury-deakin?cid=soc%7Cams%7Coth%7Cnews%7Cna%7Cna%7Cna%7Cpos&fbclid=IwAR2B-YCFb0URTElDIGUNi_ITzBL9F3BBeXD4wQ18GNJkG5YF1c7V1BZM4nU

“The study from PhD candidate within Deakin's School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Daniel Hoffman, is published in a recent edition of The British Journal of Sports Medicine.

It investigates the relationship between AFL teams losing their most valuable players to injury and their ladder position - and ultimately their chances of making the finals.

Mr Hoffman said his research showed that an injury-free season among key players contributed to Richmond's successful 2017 campaign, and is also a factor in Brisbane making their first finals series in 10 years.”

Findings/Rationale

“- If a team's 10 most valuable players missed a combined total of 27 matches, the team would typically finish 9th or lower, hence missing the finals series.
- If a player in the top 10 most valuable players missed nine matches in a season through injury, the team would lose 1 ladder place.
- Player match availability weighted by player value was higher for finalists than non-finalists and explained seven per cent of the variation in the ladder position of teams.
- Teams where no valuable players missed a match in the season were 12 per cent more likely to play in the finals series.”

————————

Obviously we know that injuries impact likely ladder position and chance of success but is interesting that someone has quantified the impact in this study. What would be interesting to know is whether our resultant 2018 ladder position is an outlier as per this study, or if we skewed the results (given we did well despite being ravaged by injury).

Sounds like we got through the VFL ok, despite the loss.
