Post subject: Round 1 Player RatingsReply with quote

With 48 hours to digest the ignominy of Saturday night, here are my humble opinions of each player:

4. Grundy: serviceable but unremarkable. Needs to assert more

7. Treloar: cliche, panic kicking and ineffective performance

8. Langdon: poor tackling and more “bad Tom” than good Tom

9. Murray: seemed to be infected in first half by the “Pies kicking yips” but lifted in second half

10. Pendlebury: your “set goal kicking” has been horrible for 3 seasons. You now miss the shots that Dustin and Paddy kick

13. Adams: worst game in 3 seasons. And those two kicks: one inboard and the shank forward. Simply horrible

14. Aish: cliche, middling and ineffective game

15. Dunn: got carved up by Gunston

18. Varcoe: more tape and bandages than Chris Dawe (and it’s round 1!)

20. Reid: showed more agility than predicted but needed to present more on the lead

21. Phillips: stamp his papers. He is a fumbler, has no right side, can’t hold a tackle and invented a kick the other night, namely “the banana shank”

22. Sidebottom: our best player and again when inside 50, things happen. #LEAVE HIM THERE #

24. Thomas: encouraging performance. Just wish he could kick 15 more metres

25. Crisp: an embodiment of our list. A goer whose 1-2 clanfers per week cost goals

30. Moore: battled hard and wish there were two of him. Bux 6 month plan for him to be a defender lasted 2.5 quarters

32. Hoskin Elliott: defensivecyacking poor, but could hold his head highs

35. Stephenson: kept going all night in what was his best game out of this and the other 2 JLT matches. Again, kicking is a concern.

37. Maynard: fastly becoming a myth rather than a reality. His kicking is too high and not thought out, his weekly clangers untenable

38. Howe: steady match and should be better for the run

39. Crocker: his best match for the club only hurt by his kicking accuracy which is endemic and unlikely to improve

40. Smith: he has more potential in Queensland child care than any business at the MCG in Richmond

46. Mason: watching the replay, Mason was 0/14 in marking attempts. Mason, you talk with an “entitled swagger”, you threatened to leave for Brisbane, the club acquiesced your contract and Visa needs and the coach has built a strategy around your selection and role. Time to deliver now: after your suspension

NEXT WEEK’S CHANGES:

Out:

Smith (injured)
Mason (suspension pending)
Phillips (omit)
Aish (omit)

In:

Wells (stuff it, take a chance)
Fasolo
Broomhead/C. Brown
McLarty

INXS fair assessment really we didn't (other than Sidey) have a player who won his position over 4 quarters.

Smith will miss with a hamstring nick
Cox likely 1 week suspension
Langdon can't be selected after last week
Aish Adams Phillips Trelaor Crisp Thomas should all be under the pump to get a game but with all the injuries we have they will likely survive
3 outs
Ins
Brown Scharenberg Daicos and why not give serious thought to playing Kirby and Seir

If we drop Cox, Phillips and Aish, we just continue the merry go round of dropping players and bringing them back another time when they have to gain confidence again. I thought Aish and Phillips were OK while Cox had a dirty night. All three need to keep playing imo. Obviously Fasolo, Wells and Elliot have to come in when they are ready, while Brown and Daicos must be close to selection.

Kirby didn't even play in the VFL while Sier needs more playing time in the VFL. Also why should we reward players for playing poorly against Hawthorn by giving them a leave pass from having to play an infinitely better team in GWS?

Well Before the Draft 1 of the Biggest Knocks on Stephenson was his Field Kicking

Agreed, that and his actual heart. But our club always think they can turn water into wine
