^^^^No way that Steele would be drafted as low as 7 if that draft was re-done.

For durability alone, you'd draft Steele higher than that.

A previous redraft I have seen (2015) had Dan Hannebery at Pick 1 in front of Nic Nat and Beams. Hannebery would hardly be a pick in the top 10 on current form. Steele was 6 behind Rory Sloane and Michael Hurley.

Beams top end is better than Steele, but I would rather have a player who gets on the park more and is more consistent in his output. Both elite players at their prime age.

AP at the start of 2018 the order was
1 Sloane
2 Beams
3 Nic Nat
4 Hannebury
And Sidey was #7
But that was before a ball wa kicked in 2018
I would imagine that would change at the end of this season

Fashion is a funny thing, isn't it? Sloane is probably the best of those guys - about he's only about half as good as Sidebottom, as his stats show - and now he's tailing off at the end of his career (he's dropped back to his 2011 stats from a 2016 and 2017 high). Here's the career comparison: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=2&playerStatus2=A&tid2=5&type=A&pid1=3150&pid2=3117&fid1=S&fid2=S

I'm not going to comment on Beams - I think everyone knows what I think. Natanui struggles to stand unassisted and Hannebery was once a good footballer but, as with Sloane, looks like he may be finished. Meanwhile, Sidebottom is presently at his career peak, following on from winning the Copeland last year.

No one in their right mind would select any of those players ahead of Sidebottom.

Sidebottom copped a hard tag from Hutchings. Not even looking at the ball in flight in a marking contest costs you a free kick but Hutchings can run around all day with his back to the ball and not be penalised. I’m not necessarily on the Sidebottom band wagon but if the game was umpired in the right spirit, Hutchings would have had to change the way he played him.
The tag alone suggests he is very highly rated by the opposition, something similar to what clubs do every week when they tag Zorko. This alone helps Beams to be a beneficiary. Guaranteed if Zorko wasn’t so highly rated, then Beams would have carried a leg rope a lot more often.
This week if Jacobs comes up, Sidebottom will probably get tagged out of the game again if the umpires don’t umpire according to the eyes on the ball interpretation of the rules. Oh and then it will be Hewett from the Swans coming up.

Doesn’t mean Sidey has had a quiet period, it just means that Treloar is missing, Phillips isn’t quite as damaging in the last month and Pendles has already proved it’s a pointless exercise against him anyway.

Wittsy starred in the Suns' big win over Sydney. 56 hit outs, 14 disposals and 9 tackles. 132 AF points.

Pendles, De Goey, Adams and possibly, Grundy will be in the votes for us.

The biggest difference between Sidey and those others you named is that only 1 of them has never been nominated for AA honours want to guess who that is ?

Until this year, Sidey was the most underrated footballer in the country. Even Collingwood supporter underrated him. Finally people are starting to appreciate his skills. Magically, watch that translate into AA nods (which is afterall, just a popularity contest - not definitive of ANYTHING).

All credit to Wayne Carey on this one. He has been harping on about how elite Sidebottom is for years. Now the rest of the league (even pies fans) are finally catching on.

Heppell (= 8th. on the leaders list) notched 116 AF points, against Sydney. Only he and Myers (106) topped the century.

I think the reason is that Sidey is such a versatile player, Buckley predominantly used him as a spare parts player to plug holes when our team wasn't as good. Because he played roles our supporters didn't notice him as much and when we lost, Sidey being a senior player, was one of those we blamed. Now the team is better Sidey is able to play his natural game and everybody is catching up what a good player he is. Credit to Carey for noticing this when others didn't.

Mooney (Fox Footy) didn't rate Heppell in his top 3 votes.
